Merida Food Guide: 10 Must-Eat Restaurants & Street Food Stalls in Merida

April 6, 2018 Mikaela Didonna

The Yucatan capital has both colonial and Mayan treasures to discover. Nearby ruins at Uxmal give some insight into the lives of the predecessors of the conquistadores, who arrived in 1542. Mayan culture is also still evident in Merida's daily life and in the many colorful festivals celebrated here.

One of the best places to eat Yucatán's food, and visit a old henequen hacienda at the same time. The hacienda is well preserved and you can stay there if you like. I love Yucateca cuisine, and almost all dishes are very well prepared. On...MoreHi Armando, thank you for the review. See you soon in #HaciendaTeya

Cafe Creme

It is owned by a french man who wanted to set a "european" style cafe. He has excellent selection of imported cheese as well as french wine . They make their own quiche and a "Menu of the day" as well as home made Deserts. It is a cosy cafe close to the Paseo Montejo and Archeological Museum. It is a good option for vegetarians as well, as they have great salads and many will enjoy a break from the delicious, but heavy, yucatecan cuisine.

Small, with limited menu. They have homemade hotdogs, and buns that are brought in from a nearby town. The coffee is good. They are open for breakfast. Service is slow, so don't be in a hurry.

World class dining, albeit in an oddly socialist decor. Four of us had the tasting menu of 11 courses and chose our own wines. The service was attentive, everything was clearly explained. There aren’t enough superlatives to describe the creativity and deliciousness of the food. Go to Mérida even just to experience this restaurant!
To the owners: why the stark lighting, and frankly, ugly tables? So much more could be done in that spectacular building. The menu definitely deserves a more elegant decor. But thank you for such a memorable evening.

After a few weeks in Merida the Wive was tired of Mexican food. Personally, I don't understand how that's possible but I love her, faults and all. So I picked out this place because it served Italian food. What a treat! Seating is outside, it's intimate, in full view of the kitchen and just charming. The food was really excellent, and I can be picky. The service was excellent and they had a good choice of wines. Remarkably, the cost was really cheap.

This was our second visit to Ave del Paraiso. While the Thai menu is not extensive, their curries really hits the spot. The curry is light but the portion size is filling nonetheless. The owner and his wife provide great service and are extremely friendly. It’s nice to have an alternative to Mexican cuisine in Merida. Would definitely visit again on our next trip!

Lo Que Hay Cafe

Lo Que Hay Cafe is an international vegan restaurant located inside Hotel MedioMundo in Merida's historical center. We serve a daily special menu of three courses, plus a refillable drink, and a dessert, all inspired by a different ethnic cuisine everyday (such as Indian, Caribbean, Moroccan, Thai and so on). We also have an a la carte menu with pastas, pizzas and salads. If you'd like to see some of our creations and which cuisine we will serve today, check out and like our Facebook page at loquehaycafe. We're open to the public Tuesday through Saturday 7PM-10PM. Just ring the bell and you will be guided to our restaurant in the hotel's patio.

What a nice find. Service was knowledgeable and by far the fastest in all of Mexico. The food was a really nice surprise. Non-veggie friends may not really notice the lack of meat because the quality is so much better than.... almost any other moderately priced restaurant. I look forward to returning
