Decent food and good prices for enormous portions but not worth the hype. The pork was too salty and the fries were soggy. We waited for one hour and a half to get our food and the restaurant was not even close to full. Unacceptable.

We passed this roadside eatery one Sunday lunchtime while looking for a place to eat, seeing it was packed to the rafters we figured it was a good bet so pulled in and got a table. The waiter spoke good English as our Portuguese is sadly lacking. The place was filled with locals. When quizzed why it was so full a local told me that it was because it was cheap also the food was good but value for money was the prime motivator here, he said most dishes were so large two people could easily share a dish.
We went for the house speciality milk fed suckling pig grilled over coals, no-one needed to fight over the crackling as it all came with plenty, delicious and with an interesting and unusual jus.
A side salad and home made potato crisps as sides and we had plenty left for a doggy bag, in fact most table seemed to leave with doggy bags in tow. Coffee was excellent and at 60 cents perfect value. Our suckling pig came in at a modest 12 euros per person.
A great atmosphere on Sunday lunch with a big crowd. Well worth it.

The food is excellent and truly authentic. The place is not fancy and the service sometimes it's a little slow, but given the number of tables and the shortage of staff id say they do a good job compared to other places in the region, and incredibly friendly! I always go there when I am around!! Highly recommend it!

Typical portuguese, easy going, big portions and very good food. Contrary to some reviewers we were served within no time, but this was off-season. No fancy place, really down to earth. English menu. Duck, beer, wine, desert eur 30/ 2 people. Half duck is ok for 2!

This restaurant has been a mystery for me for years, as we never saw the door open, just the snack-bar. Reading other reviews, the mystery was revealed and one does indeed enter the restaurant through the snack-bar ! And while doing so, one does go through the kitchen. Not sure if this is even allowed.
But anyways, we followed suit of another "lost" couple and us 5 were the only ones at the restaurant, for lunch on a Sunday. The cook approached us and asked us what we wanted, without even handling a menu. Strange. We were hungry so asked for the "today specials" which were veal stew and the grilled pork chops.
Both were disappointing I am sorry to day. The veal was greasy , the pork was dry and bland. We spent the rest of the afternoon with the taste in the mouth and not in a good way.
(The only) one waiter approach us asking for our drinks, she seemed not to understood portuguese so I went with her to pick our drinks ... in the snack-bar ... once again passing through the kitchen. As I did, the cook was peeling potatoes.
All in all, the kitchen itself didn't gave a good hygiene feeling.
I understand business may be struggling but I cannot give a better rating, it was not a good experience.

Great and affordable lunch. We asked for porco preto and feijoada de choco and both were very good. I will come back again

A fairly unsophisticated, family-run restaurant in the popular Alentejo coastal resort of Melides.
The place specialises in fish and it's certainly fresh. There is also a good selection of Alentejo meat dishes, mainly pork based, of course. The place has an eccentric, vocal owner that is entertainment in itself.
The food is acceptable quality, if cooked and presented in a fairly basic way. Huge portions and good value. The place could do with a good tidy-up and clean but gives an insight into typical Alentejo cuisine.

Burguer house e steakhouse
One of the best burgers I’ve had so far. Plenty of burgers to choose from plus ribs! I recommend “rústico” which is 120g of burger meat serve in a classic Portuguese bread and all the savory classic ingredients of a burger (lettuce, tomatoes, cheese and bacon). All homemade!
For three people we paid 24€!!!
