Arrived unannounced and were able to secure a lovely room at the hotel... Reception staff were extremely accommodating and friendly. The hotel has a wonderful spa and sauna, and there are rooms with whirlpool baths. Our room had a lovely little balcony overlooking the quaint street synonymous with this traditional town. Of you're up to brisk walking, you could reach many attractions on foot

Dorint Parkhotel Meissen

The Dorint Parkhotel is a comfortable holiday resort, set in an Art Nouveau villa built in 1870. Guests enjoy fantastic panoramic views to the Albrechtsburg castle with cathedral and Elbe river. In the spa area, ayurvedic massages are offered. In the restaurant with winter garden, you may enjoy Saxon dishes and selected wines from the region.

So so

Reviewed By Angelinatasia

We stayed in the room with view towards the castle/church which was obstructed by a large old tree on their yard. Why do they sell it as castle view then?! The room itself was quite spacious, could fit 2 extra beds for families with kids. Large windows, lots of sun, which helped a lot to make the room feels less dated. Bathroom is very small though. Very good breakfast, lots of variety and friendly restaurant staffs. What disappoint us the most was the receptionist staffs. They were very unfriendly, no welcome greeting or smile, spoke with an authoritative tone (like we are not the customer!), not speaking good English, and the answer for every question seemed to be 'nein'. A shame as they suppose to be the face of the hotel. I hope they get hospitality training soon.

Romantik Hotel Burgkeller

High above the wine and porcelain town of Meissen, the privately run 4 * hotel promises enjoyable moments in many ways. In a unique, quiet location next to the cathedral and the Albrechtsburg, it offers a graceful box seat with historical stories about the "cradle of Saxony". This backdrop is the perfect setting for a short break with enjoyment, a special party or the meeting place for an eventful meeting.

As part of the hotelchain "romantik hotels" you know at least for a bit what to expect. High standard hotel quality with good restaurant as well. This hotel has been extended in an annex building and I got a huge room in this part, overviewing the central place before the hotel / church. Very comfortable bed, sitting area, good writing desk and spacious bathroom. Wifi of good quality. Breakfast is in buffet style with everything you could think of. In the evenings parking in front of the hotel is free of charge, during the day you can park in the garage at the foot of the mountain and an elevator will bring you up for € 1,- only.

Don't go to Dresden, go to Meissen!

Reviewed By toftwinther

You probably consider going to Dresden. You know the bombed City with the restored Frauenkirche - well, don't! Go to the real beauty, the houses that hasn't been rebuilt because they havn't been destroyed, a small City that wasn't bombed at all during the war. Yes, Meissen - 20 kilometers north of overcrowed-with-tourist-Dresden. Here in Meissen lives 30.000 sachsens in a nice, quite fairytail-town with lots of restaurants, Germanys oldest Castle, the river Elben a glimpse away and of course a great Hotel: Goldener Löwe. That is where you should stay, and if you're lucky you get Room nr 103, a Junior Suite with a nice view to a square, a huge suite and a luxury bathroom. Included is a great breakfast with eggs and bacon, a lot of other good stuff - and sekt! The germans has got a great idea: lets drink sekt, sparkling wine, for breakfast! It makes the day so much better from the start :) The Hotel offers private (and paid) parking, we used it, but are not sure whether it was necessary. It is a very peacefull place. Goldener Löwe is placed in the absolute center of the little town and you can walk to anything: The museum for Meissen china (porcelain), the Castle and the Dome, the River Elb, and to all the good restaurants and cafés. But do bring your car and take on excursions in the countryside - it was here Casper David Friedrich, the great painter, was inspired for many of his best paintings. There is The Sachsien Switzerland, and there is a wineroute - they make a decent whitewine here. But forget about Dresden - and if you must go, and your probably must, then take only half a day and hurry back to Meissen...

Quaint Hotel

Reviewed By EdenL435

This is probably the quaintest hotel I've been to. The rooms feel like you're at home rather than a hotel. Breakfast is pretty standard, but the view looking over the river was such a beautiful way to enjoy our meal. Sadly we were only here for one night but from the brochures in the lobby it looks like there are wine tours in the area. I would love to stay at this hotel again if I was in the area.

Not as charming as photos

Reviewed By akatraveler

We were so disappointed we acctually left the hotel, and found a private pension down the road. More expensive ...yes...but worth it. The Pictures were so nice, but it really looked so sad, and not maintained at all.. Pictures probably 10 years old. White tablecloth in restaurant on photos, but i reality, just darkbrown tables with nothing on it.. First we couldnt find any servants, or reception. After waiting a long time in an emty restaurant at 7 o clock, I found a nice girll in a room filled with smoke. She had to cook food, serve beer to guests, and help us, all at the same time. We got our room keys. But not for the switzers looking house, or any similar charming style guest house........no we had to walk 200 meter to a alley with eastern europe greyish 3 story appartment buildings in a dark street. with garbage everywhere. Appartment very big, Price very low, but not double bed as requested. We only saw this one of two rooms ordered, beacuse non of us wanted to sleep on a single bed. Still to much love in our Family. Choose this only if you just need to sleep over. Very fine for that.! Clean and spacios! Close to museum and walking distance to town.

good for stopover

we had a stopover in Meissen, which feels quite dated and I would not recommend people to go there. the hotel is uphill and a bit outside of the center. Basic rooms that do the trick for a stopover. I would not stay there for a longer period. but again, I would not recommend Meissen in the first place

Nice land hotel

Reviewed By Laird43

We stayed here for the weekend with family. The owner of the hotel is very friendly and will bring up service like you expect in bigger hotels, although he is mostly on his own. The rooms are lovely and perfect for an over night stay. The breakfast has all you can expect or even more when you look at the price. The hotel lies in a very quiet and convenient location. Just 2 miles from the city center. And Meissen is always worth to see. We did not try the restaurant in the evening, but from the breakfast experience I guess it is very good and you can ask for local food. Always a good choice. I can recommend this hotel. We had a pleasant stay and the price with this service is unbeatable.
