Posada Alegria is located in the very heart of historical Medina Sidonia, a beautiful white washed town perched on top of a hillside commanding incredible views across the Andalusian countryside and out to the Atlantic ocean. Medina Sidonia is centrally located between Jerez de la Frontera, Cadiz city , Seville, Tarifa and the fabulous award winning beaches of the Costa de la Luz.
The stay here these days it is being perfect, could write many lines talking about rooms, wonderful sights from the terrace of our apartment called "La Buhardilla", location,.. but for me the chance to meet Sandra, the owner and all the staff , including her mom, makes me very fortunate people. If you miss something you just have to ask her. Almost forget to mention the cat, lovely creature of Sandra's mom that specially my daughter loves too much and plays a lot together. Since now they take a piece in my heart.

I'd visited the restaurant back in 2010 and it stuck in my mind - great food, great view, and at sunset it's spectacular. Fast forward a dozen years and I was riding round southern spain on a motorbike in company with an old friend. I'd vaguely had in mind the possibility of revisiting La Vista de Medina, but hadn't checked to see if it was still open, under different management, or perhaps no longer around? Fortunately it is still thriving! The owner is a British ex-pat, very friendly, and absolutely willing to go the extra mile. We arrived late afternoon and were shown to our lovely apartment, having reserved a balcony spot at the co-located restaurant for later. The apartment was very nicely furnished and well equipped and had access to a terrace and pool. A bit chilly in early October but that's to be expected for the time of year - we jumped in any way. After a very relaxing afternoon and early evening spent exploring the immediate vicinity (lovely church and a ruined castle), we wandered upstairs a little before sunset for an evening meal. The sunset view is simply superb, the food and service was excellent, and the cocktails afterwards very welcome! All-in-all, a lovely visit, even better than i'd hoped/remembered. My only regret is that I wasn't able to stay a little longer. I plan to take my wife for a long weekend next year - can't recommend it highly enough :-D

Small and very charming hotel in old but renovated building. Close to museums, and restaurants. Parking is free a few minutes’ walk away. Friendly staff and very clean. Breakfast could be improved though.

We had a lovely stay in this small b&b. We had the honor to stay in the "suite" - the biggest room, with a large, private living room, a comfy bed room and a large bath room. With a warm welcome by Victoria and the best breakfast by Raffa, this has been a great experience from beginning to end. We would highly recommend!

Our hosts were extremely helpful in all aspects especially in advising on where to eat and where to visit. Entry to the property out of office hours was made very simple. Leaving on our final day was also simplicity itself. Anything we asked for was attended to immediately. The apartment was clean and tidy and we had everything we required. Location is 5 minutes from the Malaga train station which means travel to and from the Airport at Malaga is easy and very inexpensive.

Booked this hotel some weeks before we travelled and they were aware we would be arriving on a Monday evening (early February). Found the hotel and saw a notice saying restaurant was closed on Mondays. However everywhere was in darkness and the hotel door wouldn’t open. We tried ringing the number we had but it rang out and cut off twice. We were in the car park deciding what to do next when a Spanish gentleman, who spoke a little English, asked us what the problem was. After we had explained he said he knew the proprietor and would ring him for us. After he made the call he took us in through another door and went behind the reception and gave us the room key. He assured us there would be someone on reception in the morning. We found the room which was clean but small. The bed was comfortable but pillows were very uncomfortable, there was also no heating or control for the air con so we were rather cold overnight and there were no staff to rectify these 2 problems. We went into town for a meal and on our return the hotel was still in darkness and no one, guest or staff, around. When we went down in the morning there was still no one on reception and we saw another guest just pop his key in a basket so we did the same, leaving without being able to complain. The money for the night had already been paid up front as is often the norm with booking sites. Fortunately it was only for one night and not expensive. It was the strangest hotel experience we have ever had and rather disappointing

i only needed a place to stay over for a night, but we actually really liked the place. They upgraded us with a bigger room, the bed was super mega comfortable 180, king size, I was expecting the tipical 120 french bed. Nice pool with a great view, nice staff. Playground for kids and a lovely baby donkey to take pictures with. The only thing I would point is that they require a payment for a baby bed of 10 euros, which normally is free, but as I said the rest was good.

Since 1969 Manuela and Jose started to offer tapas, fish and pork and little by little they included venison, filled rolls, barbequed meats and kidneys in sherry. In 1982 they specialised in game and steaks. In 1992 they founded Bar El Castillo together with their children and three years later it became Venta El Castillo. In 2000 they converted to Restaurante el Castillo. And now since 2009 thanks to the vision of the Ballesteros Gonzalez family they have completed an enlargement project and opened the doors of the Hotel Restaurante El Castillo, managed by Manuela and all the family, brothers, sons and granddaughters.
I would say that Hotel - Restaurante el Castillo is a great place to stay for a few days. I come down to MEdina as a business trip to Gibraltar and I was in Room 4. Business is managed by a family and they all are great in terms of customers' needs. Giving a great service for an accurate price. I will come back at some point as I have the feeling I was at home or being part of the family after 3 days. Manuela, the boss for saying, is a lovely woman with plenty of character and local skills, so everything you need to know about Medina, please, talk to her. Also, she is a great top cook. She is cooking local dishes as you have never tried something similar before. Delicious and tasted food coming from Manuela's hands. Pepe is Manuela's son and he is a brilliant top waiter. Serving a great dish is even better when you have a great waiter as Pepe. Also, he is a top cake maker. He is making handmade cakes and trusts me... you gonna cry when trying his amazing cakes. He deserves a great mention in the same way as his mum, Also, we have Manuela, Pepe's sister and she is lovely also taking care of the customer. Helping service at any time and you will feel like at home when being treated by any of them. As a summary, a great place is a lovely location, steps away from the Castle ruins and great views on the landscape. Manuela and family, you are outstanding all of you! Note: Carlos still thinking about Manuela´s potaje de garbanzos y Pepe´s mini apple cakes! Deliciousssssssss...

Buon viaggio.
