I ate there just twice, two days running. The first day, by pure luck, I ordered a salmon dish. It was a religious experience, best salmon of my life. There are two forms of salmon on the menu. One is called Mediterranean, which is what I ordered. I do not recall the name of the other option. If I live in Mazamitla, I would eat that salmon every day for the rest of my life. Or until I got tired of it, which would take a while.

We ate there with friends who are regulars. The food was great; desserts amazing and good wine, beer and liquor selection. This restaurant is located outside of town and is beautifully landscaped. Family owned and operated. The owner, an expat Belgian was very interesting and visited with the tables when we were there. He even brought out his guitar and sang.

The main reason for visiting the beautiful mountain retreat is not for the food, but the experience of a Mexican "magic town". There is only one per state, and Mazamitia is the one for Jalisco.
Restaurant El Charo has good basic food, well presented and with a friendly service. There are no English translations.

The food represents Local Mexican Cuisine . Chef touch is excellent, the portions are good enough and the variety is nice also. Prices are cheap and the service staff is also fast, diligent and friendly.
Be cautious because it has a high demand and could be full at top hours , but it worth to wait for a table (10 minutes waiting average)
They have a huge variety of drinks (fresh natural fruit water, alcoholic ones)
