The best hospitality!

Reviewed By Alipstaylor

I stayed here for 3 nights as a solo traveller and I definitely recommend it. The location is perfect, very close to Tereia beach; Sandra's dinners were extremely good and it was nice to eat and chat with the other guests. The room and toilet were clean and Sandra was very helpful with whatever I wished to do on the island, ready to take me anywhere with her car. She was also very funny and she taught me a lot of Tahitian words!

The St. Regis of Roughing It!

Reviewed By Robert R

Minutes from the airport on the motu, picked up by the friendly staff in a dump truck, what's not to like post 5 star stay at the Bora Bora St Regis. This is the opposite side of opulence but actually was an exceptional experience. The family running the pension was more than friendly, going out of their was to meet requests. The bungalows between the pacific surf and the inner lagoon spartan but adequate, it's back to nature time! Full security here with 4 little dogs and a kitten on premise, nice company. European breakfast with fresh fruits and for dinner it was freshly caught local fish prepared differently each day. The raw tuna salad best ever, really better than Bora Bora cuisine at 10X the price. The snorkeling trip was great, face to face with giant manta-rey's. Bikes included over on the mainland side, nice cycling trip around the island, takes a couple of hours of leisurely peddling with a swimming stop at the public beach. So here's the take... I'm quite used to 5 star hotels and resorts worldwide. Maupiti Paradise is not that but I would not trade my 3 days at the place for anything. My test of a holiday resort is "would I go back" and in this case it is a definite yes. And, THANKS to the family running the place, we really enjoyed getting acquainted! Oh... if a Saturday, the beach picnic with the local lunch cooked in the ground is NOT to be missed!

Don't stay here...it just wasn't worth it

Reviewed By Ofelia W

We stayed here after reading reviews from Tripadvisor....would not stay here if I visited Maupiti again. There were 6 adults, 3 couples. We rented out the entire place and Ludo and his wife served us breakfast and dinner. The beds were on some egg foam mattress that due to the heat/humidity made both my husband and I sweaty and uncomfortable. There were no window screens and the bed netting had holes so all sorts of flying bugs came onto our bed and I was bitten up all over. The food and water served for our meals look somewhat clean. It felt like we were taking risks every time we ate/ drank at the pensione. And finally to top it off, one night Ludo was partying with his family and drank so much he fell and broke his collar bone. It just made our stay weird and uncomfortable. The couple hardly spoke English and we had to cobble our words together to understand each other. There are many more options and if I had to go there, I would avoid this pensione. It was so bare bones.

Great Hospitality- A Must

Reviewed By yayagogogo

Dawn and her family were so helpful with booking our activities. We were greeted with flower leis and when we left she gave us shell necklaces. The location is nice; you can snorkel off her pier or walk to the beach. The food is also great- I'm still thinking about the parrot fish! There is wifi only in the common room, and no shampoo/conditioner.

we had a great time at this place. the location is stunning, the food was just amazing and the owners friendly an accommodating. our bungalow was very spacious and nice, sea view, unfortunately only cold water, but that was a minor detail. otherwise, i can only say; it was a fantastic stay, the owners helped us in organising our stay with boat trips and other assistance. and gave us nice company an insights into life in Polynesia. great snorkelling too.

Wonderful Stay

Reviewed By cupcakelovah

I won't rehash too much on what everyone else has already stated, but I truly enjoyed my time with Mata and the island of Maupiti. As a solo traveler I stayed next to her parents, which made me feel more safe and comfortable. My accommodations were clean and comfortable, and the fan worked fine for me at night. Mata is an excellent hostess; she communicated well with me before, during, and after my trip (in English, if language barriers are a concern for some folks), she went out of her way to try to help me find my lost phone, AND she's a great cook. I went to bed full and happy each night I was there. The beauty of Maupiti was enhanced by Mata's graciousness; I can't wait to come back and visit, next time with my son. Thank you Mata and family for making my first trip to Polynesia such a memorable one!!!

Incredible hosts!

We actually stayed at Maupiti Residence right next door to Espace Beach but we ate all of our meals at this pension. We can't say enough great things about the hosts and service we experienced. So warm, welcoming and wanting to make our stay as wonderful as possible. We also went on a snorkeling excursion with the pension owner and had a great day. We were here on Christmas Eve and the host made an incredibly special dinner and event for us. We can't say enough great things about them! Also, this is located at the BEST beach on the island. You will not find anything better!

zero stars if I could CAMPERS BEWARE!

Reviewed By shareminator

Be sure to stay on the main island, which offers better value and even free camping on Tereia beach. We paid 600 (!) dollars for nothing but the ride from the airport and pitching our tent for 5 nights: 2500 cpf per night, for each adult and infant alike, plus an extra 2000cpf per head for transfer. The mosquito infested spot was farther from the water than expected and the price would be completely outrageous even if it was a nice campsite. Even more so considering the terrible condition, many hazards (more later) and lack of ANY service offered by the very unfriendly and heartless host Gilbert, who seems out of touch with reality. Here is what to expect as a camper - NO INFORMATION: After arriving we were not given ANY information about were to use a toilet, shower or cook and had to ask other campers to fill us in. - NO HELP: Gilbert refused to give us (a family with two infants) a ride to the main island to meet a tour guide there the morning after our arrival. We had to get up early and swim / wade through the water with our infants to get there. - NO FOOD: We were counting on getting food at the "pension restaurant" but were denied to buy breakfast, lunch, dinner an any day or time. I multiply begged to pay for a bowl of rice to feed my kids at Gilbert's earliest convenience but all I got was a "nope". Asking how we were supposed to survive on the island without food the answer was "Wade 1km through chest deep water, rent a bike for 12dollars, cycle 30minutes to the village and buy some food in the store. Go back." As we found out based on Gilbert's weird behavior (but lack of explanation), the "restaurant" is only open to his guest who reside in one of the bungalows on the property. It's hard to describe such ignorance, complete lack of hospitality and empathy without becoming offensive. I am really not exaggerating or making a joke. The joke comes here: - FACILITIES: After seeing the advertised "fully equipped kitchen" and "bathroom" we thought this was a joke. We've seen terrible places across the world for 5 dollars or less per night, but nothing as disgusting like this. The water did not drain, neither in the "toilet", nor in the "shower". Neither the toilet nor shower appears to have been cleaned in months or years. Most of the time there was no toilet paper. There was one plunger to be used to flush the toilet or drain water in the shower, whichever seems more pressing. There were remains of old fish and a foul smell of decay in the kitchen which didn't encourage us to use any of the old dirty and dented pots or pans. There was of course no fresh sponge, no detergent or kitchen towel either. We hadn't even expected a kitchen or bathroom and would have been fine not having one, but since it was there and we obviously paid for it it's hard not to mention. - FALLING COCONUTS: Extremely tall coconut palms are all over the beach and dropping brown coconuts several times a day without warning. They can easily kill an adult human and even more so small kids. It's literally a minefield. Other hotels and pensions cut off the brown cocos to avoid this hazard. - UNLEASHED AGGRESSIVE DOGS: 2 dogs (at times 3) are running around on the beach unleashed. They seem friendly to humans at first but have also shown extreme aggressive potential during our stay. Gilbert's huge white male argentine dog, which is appropriately named "Bad", attacked and killed a leopard ray in shallow water right next to us, and didn't stop attacking it with fierce aggression until the dog had removed and eaten its heart. The dog obviously didn't kill for hunger, but for pleasure The very same day the same white argentine dog bit a small black kitten to death in front of our eyes, while we were eating and the cat was hanging out near us. He was in a complete blood rush and I can only imagine what would have happened, if one of us or the kids, had accidently come to interfere with the dogs attack. According to Gilbert, this was not the first time this dog had shown such aggressive behavior, and he even proudly mentioned that the argentine dog had killed many sharks and rays for pleasure in the past. He finds this quite normal and simply said "He loves fish". On our last day, the white argentine dog got into a wild and loud dogfight with two other dogs in front of clients. Gilbert resolved the situation by hitting the dogs violently with a thick wooden pole that eventually broke as he was hitting the dogs. Having seen this, we were no longer wondering were the unpredictable and aggressive behaviour of the dogs comes from. Maupiti, which is is beautiful and so is motu Auira but if you plan on camping, don’t come here. If you have small children or a toddler definitely don’t come here!! This place deserves give minus ten stars for hospitality, cleanliness, safety and value!
