Get to Matera quickly, because it’s still relatively undiscovered by foreign tourists. In town, visit the Domenico Ridola National Museum. Matera’s real claim to fame, though, and the reason it’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the extensive series of cave dwellings ("i sassi") southeast of town, first inhabited by Benedictine and Basilian monks. You’ll see individual cells, chapels, and even some churches, many adorned with Byzantine decorations and frescoes.

Tenuta Danesi is a fortified farmhouse built in the '700. It is part of a large farm and it's just 5 kilometers from Matera, city of sassi, European Capital of Culture 2019 and UNESCO World Heritage Site.
My husband, son and I stayed at Tenuta Danesi for two nights right before the COVID-19 outbreak. Although the hotels other reservations had to cancel they stayed committed to our reservation and treated us with the best hospitality we could have hoped for. Our room was amazing, comfortable, and spacious. The food they served at breakfast and dinner was delicious and the wine they serve is amazing. We came home with a lot of goodies from their facility from honey and beans to wine and coffee. Tenuta Danesi is in a great location only a few minutes drive from the city but in a very relaxing area. I would highly recommend anyone to stay here as you won't be disappointed.

Perfect stay for one night. We booked a twin room and it was pretty basic and relatively clean. Breakfast is not a hot one, but included. Cereal ,cake, toast bread with jam, nutella, yogurt. There is juice, tea and a machine for coffee. There is also free parking on the property. You can walk to Matera centro which is a step away. Beautiful city.

Danielle our host did an amazing job making us feel welcome in her spectacular accommodations. You can’t experience anything like it in the world. Sleeping in a cave with modern conveniences and being in an UNESCO World Heritage Site is beyond your wildest expectations.

Myricae is a small b & b in the center of Matera. The fortune of the structure is that of being only 250 meters from the famous Sassi of Matera, but not in a limited traffic area: you can arrive comfortably with your car and find parking nearby; during your stay you will forget it! Each room has a comfortable double bed, bathroom, independent heating and air conditioning. Slippers, phones, towels and courtesy set will be at your disposal! In addition Myricae has a small common space, with the hope that travelers from all over the world between a coffee and a tea (offered by us) can chat.
Simple, clean, everything works, and a great location to the town. The customer service is wonderful. We booked three rooms; all came to be very clean, and a working AC! We found free parking close by and there are plenty of paid parking around.

Self Check in soluzione strepitosa e intelligentissima! In ogni caso struttura consigliatissima!
