We decided to stop here for breakfast before our cruise and got here a bit earlier. Seemed like everyone had the same idea that day! Still, we managed to get a table and the staff were so accommodating and friendly, despite it being so busy....MoreHaha, yes, I know how fussy teenage boys can be, I have one myself! Thanks so much for your kind words, we're glad you enjoyed your visit and look forward to seeing you all again soon. :-)

In 1998 Daniel and Julie Baturic designed and developed the local service station workshop into Matakana's first- ever restaurant & pizzeria. Some years later the Rusty Pelican was sold. In 2007 Daniel Baturic with business partner Stu Wells repurchased the then fading restaurant to re-establish the original concept of hearty meals and pizzas to die for to make it once again a local iconic pizzeria restaurant. Rusty's famous pizzas appeal to connoisseurs of casual dining and are just the thing to top off a day at the beach. The extensive a la carte menu is sure to please with seafood, pastas, steaks and salads but be sure to leave room for the delicious desserts. The revived success of this Matakana restaurant and bar has reaffirmed Daniel's philosophy that the Rusty Pelican is a venue where people can gather with friends and family over a generous, well priced meal. Good service with old fashioned hospitality is guaranteed. The continued investment in the local community has the Rusty Pelican supporting school fundraisers and sports teams such as the Mahurangi Junior Rugby Club, Omaha Beach Surf Life Saving Club, and Mahurangi College Sports teams to name a few. "Matakana has a lot of visitors whom we welcome and cater for but focusing on our loyal year round local patrons is paramount" says Daniel. The Rusty Pelican Pizzeria Restaurant understands the importance of catering for families and provides a welcoming well planned family atmosphere. The Tui sports bar is also children friendly. Why not challenge Dad to a game of pool or have your family cheer for their favourite team on the big screen? Check out our unbeatable winter value meal deals which enable the whole family to dine without breaking the bank.
Had takeaway pizzas the first night which were good and the second night we dined in. The snapper salad was excellent but my partner's fettuccine dish was very average. The fettuccine undercooked and the sauce not mixed in well. When we paid the bill, the manager asked how we enjoyed the meal and was advised that the fettuccine was disappointing. He apologised and discounted the bill. He was genuinely concerned and offered the discount without us asking.

Heron's Flight is a working vineyard and winery, specializing in Italian grape varieties. Our cellar door is open daily. Please note we are not a restaurant.
A pleasant surprise to be greeted by and enthusiastic wine maker who has been at this location since the beginning of grape plantings in this area. Learn how one Enterprise can populate the district. Well worth a visit with the added bonus of some unique wines.

We visited here as a group of 6 on a recommendation and could not have been happier with the meal.
The food was cooked perfectly, there were lots of options to choose from, the staff were accommodating with our requests and friendly and we came away very full and very happy!
As a vegetarian, I was also pleased with the selection of meals available.

During my third trip from Italy to Warkworth, visiting my daughter and her husband, we decided to try this restaurant, that we didn't consider before. That was mainly because my daughter that evening wanted absolutely to eat Fish and Chips. It was a very good choice. We shared squids as starter, then my daughter and her husband ordered the Fish and Chips and I tried a Lamb Sirloin. We finished with an Apple Pie. Everything was well prepared, with fresh ingredients. The restaurant offers a good choice of beers and the service is good and friendly.

Situated just an hour's drive from Auckland or Whangarei, Plume, the vineyard restaurant, Matakana is a must visit destination on any Matakana wine or food journey - we believe we are all about fabulous local New Zealand wine and produce which together can celebrate "culinary diversity." Plume is a small town, rural, rustic restaurant with friendly service from locally employed staff. It is a great change from the starchy fine dining service of a big city like Auckland yet is in a class of its own.
Another delicious lunch sitting on the Terrace . As we arrived just before the kitchen closed from lunch service we had to quickly make up our mind so we decided to just go with 2 entrees accompanied by Runner Duck wine . We shared the Chilli, Garlic Pizza Bread & the Venison Tataki which we’re both nicely presented , tasty & just enough for two to share . Friendly efficient staff & nice surroundings made it a very enjoyable lunch

We made a reservation (for 12th August) for a party of five booking via email and everything was confirmed late July. We booked accommodation and drove up from Hamilton for the special occasion - what occurred next was somewhat dumbfounding! As when we got to...MoreUnfortunately due to the function being so large, we did have to close the restaurant for the night. We were under the impression that all customers were phoned and notified of this, including you. Please accept our apology for this inconvenience.

We were traveling though this town and I looked up the reviews for a great venue for breakfast. Seemingly this establishment got the prize but sadly this was not our experience. The food was nicely presented but lacked taste - eggs were far too runny - probably made in great haste as the place was busy. The bathrooms are unisex and one was actually filthy. We were served our coffees in takeaway cups as they had run out of China!? Sorry guys - I saw a 'vote for us - best restaurant in NZ' but you are nowhere near the top. I wish I had chosen another venue.

Discover a new world as you gaze down on The Glass House, hovering like a coloured jewel beside the vineyard, cantilevered over the waterlily-fringed lake. This unique building is open daily year round, where you can choose to taste our range of wines, enjoy a glass as you relax on our generous decks or simply purchase bottles to take home. We're excited to offer you our fresh new menu, showcasing local produce and seasonal ingredients. Do come and experience dishes that we love and flavours we are passionate about. Download the Menu> This is truly a building for all seasons as you watch the birdlife on the lake on a summer's afternoon, or feel the fury of winter as the rain lashes the lake and sends the overflow beneath you in a veritable waterfall. Metres away are the vines, with the building's transparency letting you possibly observe the pruning process, leaf-plucking, fruit thinning, and if the time is right, the harvest itself!
On a beautiful day with out of town visitors we thought it would be nice to take them to Brick Bay Winery for a glass of wine.
On arrival staff were just standing around talking to each other. Plenty of empty tables.
On approaching a staff member we were told to go to the Hostess and get a table, on doing so were told no tables available for just a glass of wine.
We were not there at a prime busy time so asked if we could have a glass of wine, were told NO.
So we left, we will never return and will tell others of the terrible attitude.
