In 1998 Daniel and Julie Baturic designed and developed the local service station workshop into Matakana's first- ever restaurant & pizzeria. Some years later the Rusty Pelican was sold. In 2007 Daniel Baturic with business partner Stu Wells repurchased the then fading restaurant to re-establish the original concept of hearty meals and pizzas to die for to make it once again a local iconic pizzeria restaurant. Rusty's famous pizzas appeal to connoisseurs of casual dining and are just the thing to top off a day at the beach. The extensive a la carte menu is sure to please with seafood, pastas, steaks and salads but be sure to leave room for the delicious desserts. The revived success of this Matakana restaurant and bar has reaffirmed Daniel's philosophy that the Rusty Pelican is a venue where people can gather with friends and family over a generous, well priced meal.
