We stayed at Shanti House for the weekend and we all absolutely loved the house! Perfectly locate between the natural beach pools and the village! Close enough to walk to the village but it still have a good dose of privacy. House has everything you need, linens are clean and smell really good, house is clean. Love the decor and it has such a good vibe and energy. Owner is great and communicates quickly and effectively! She is approachable and very helpful. Housekeeper is great! We loved Lu! Their swimming pool is as natural as it gets the don't use a lot of chemicals and my baby daughter's skin thanked! I will definitely go back. I wish I could have been there longer.

We had a delightful stay at Pousada Caminho do Mar for four days. Imbassai is exactly what we were looking for--not too expensive, not too crowded, out-of-the-way, beautiful Brasil. Imbassai is undergoing a massive road paving/upgrading and is presently difficult to navigate; however, once we found the pousada, we were given a beautiful and spacious cabana/cabin. The German woman who runs the pousada is helpful, speaks several languages (including English), and always attended to our every need. The grounds are lush and meticulously attended--lots of hibiscus with hummingbirds everywhere. The pool is beautiful, clean, and very large. One of our favorite things was the breakfast which was served each morning on our private porch at our cabana. We have traveled extensively in Brasil and have never had breakfast delivered, and this was a nice (and romantic) touch. At first, we thought that the pousada was poorly connected to the beach, but the walk is about five minutes, and this is one of the closest pousadas to the beach. Imbassai is a jewel! The beach is made up of a river (the Imbassai, I think), which runs along beside the ocean. Each day, we would walk to the river, wade across it (cross at the widest part), and alternate between the ocean and the river. Several grass huts (barracas) take care of your chairs and umbrellas while selling softdrinks, capirinhas, and lots of snacks, including some beautiful fried fish. I would (and will) return to Imbassai and Pousada Caminho do Mar. We also ate at two great restaurants--Jerimum in Imbassai (a little expensive, but wonderful seafood, served with a gourmet flair), and Sombre do Mangueira in the next little town of Diogo. (Take the dirt road AFTER the dirt road that points to Diogo. Go through the little river, and you'll find Sombre Do Mangueira in a couple of kilometers.) Incredible Mouccaca. (I may have just said "incredible monkey instead of "incredible seafood stew!) We had the shrimp with cheese because lobster is not in season right now, but we had two (we went twice) of the best meals I have had in Brasil. You sit under the largest mango tree, with nets to keep the falling mangos from killing you, and watch monkeys jumping from tree to tree in the back. Great service. The absolute BEST food! **Note: We stayed at Praia do Forte twelve years ago, thinking that we had "discovered" the beautiful town. Now everyone has discovered Praia do Forte--very expensive and overdeveloped. Imbassai is now much like Praia do Forte was twelve years ago. Inevitably, progress and masses of us tourists will find Imbassai, but, until that happens, it is a paradise-like beach.
