Having been a long while since eating at such an establishment in downtown Salem, I had made plans to meet a friend for lunch. Well, communication was screwed up and I was by my wee little one-some. But no matter! I hunkered down for a margarita and burrito. The place filled up fairly quickly at time of opening. The staff were polite and food service was quick (like, 5 minutes from time of order to sittin-in-front-of-me-insane quick). The Howling Wolf Burrito was rice, cheese, pinto beans, and carne deshebrada (shredded beef) with christmas chili sauce and chili con queso smothering this monster. Never fear, as a certain YouTube personality, Babish says: "This meal has joined the clean plate club." I didn't want to eat the rest of the day after this meal, but I was meeting a friend for some Back Alley later on and trust me, I soldiered on. But the meal was delicious, filling, and completed the day. And we barely hit noon.House margarita was served in a high ball glass instead of a margarita glass, but there was salt on the rim and I lack the class to be concerned with such frivolous, superficial 'faux pas.' The only question is thus: "was it good?" and I found the drink a little 'meh' to actually a little salty (even when drinking by straw and not by rim), but otherwise smooth and refreshing.Overall despite the social setback, it was a brilliant lunch that brightened the day, despite the on-coming thunderstorms.

We have patronized Cilantro for many years, and still very much enjoy it. The criticisms in some of the reviews seem very unfair, as this is a high end Mexican restaurant that is more expensive than those offering lesser fare, with slightly smaller portions. The food, drinks and service at Cilantro are all top notch.

CLOSED FOR THE SEASON! Strong drink, simple food, and one-of-a-kind, expansive views of Salem. The Roof features some of the city's best-crafted cocktails and offers a menu with items like tacos, ceviche, and oysters. For both locals and tourists, The Roo
The Roof is an outdoor bar/cocktail lounge actually on the roof of the Hotel Salem on Essex Street. It was the perfect place to relax with a cocktail after a fun day in Salem. They also have a menu of appetizers with our favorites being the Guacamole dip with chips, grilled vegetables in a taco bowl and pulled pork tacos. The bar and a few sofa-like lounge chairs and tables are under a canopy with the remainder of sofa and high-top tables in the open air. We enjoyed it... A round of drinks for five people and three appetizers averaged $20 per person.Love that you found The Roof to be such a perfect place to relax after a day spent exploring Salem (we have to agree)! From the tasty appetizers offered to the craft cocktails to those relaxing sofa loungers, it sounds like you had everything you needed to kickback. We hope to welcome you back again sometime soon!

Late dinner, MON 9:10. Seasoned steak in quesadilla and fajitas was excellent. Salsa good; rapid service and good AC.
