Reviews on Bar food in Newburyport, Massachusetts, United States. Newburyport is a small coastal, scenic, and historic city in Essex County, Massachusetts, United States, 35 miles (56 km) northeast of Boston. The population was 17,416 at the 2010 census. A historic seaport with a vibrant tourism industry, Newburyport includes part of Plum Island. The mooring, winter storage and maintenance of recreational boats, motor and sail, still contribute a large part of the city's income. A Coast Guard station oversees boating activity, especially in the swift tidal currents of the Merrimack River.

We recently hit the Thirsty Whale during a severe thunderstorm/flash flood warning type of day during the Yankee Festival in Newburyport. After hitting Stonewall Kitchens and sampling all their awesome sauces, my husband declared he was parched after sampling a particular hot sauce and there was the Thirsty Whale! It was not crowded (and the streets were so incredibly) and when we went in, the small bar had friendly folks and the bartenders were instantly attentive (a huge plus to these thirsty tourists)! We had perfectly made drinks and while we weren't barside, it was extremely entertaining to listen to the bartenders as they regaled folks with tales of tourists past (in a kind and entertaining kind of way - nothing negative at all). Such a nice little venue, we'd stop back by again!

OUR MENU HAS SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE. Enjoy our live music, extensive game room including billiards, darts, and shuffleboard. Winner of Northshore Magazine âBest Guys Night Outâ!
So very disappointed in the ambience, the food, the presentation, and the care. It's bar food, and I suppose that it would taste better if you drank alot, which we didn't. Our experience was nothing pleasurable...fish tacos so spicy I could not eat them and there were only 3 tiny pieces of mahi mahi almost indistinguishable. The fried chicken was overcooked and dry, the cornbread was greasy and hard. And add to this that I spent $60 at a local bakery down the street so that they could bring dessert to the restaurant and present it to our guest for his birthday. We wanted this to be very special because he has cancer, as well, and thought this would be a lovely way to surprise him. After dinner, I gave our server the nod to bring out our $60 birthday dessert. There was no classy presentation, no wishes of Happy Birthday...and worst of all....the server plunked the dessert onto the middle of the table, said nothing other than, "there you go" and left us to sing happy birthday, serve the dessert and TRY to make it special. Ugh, such a terrible experience. Let me be clear, when I purchased this $60 dessert the gal at the bakery OFFERED to bring the dessert over to the restaurant because she was going there to work that evening. Let me also say that the dessert was nothing special either. So all-in-all a very unhappy dinner all around. We will not return, nor will we recommend it to our friends/family.

We grabbed a table by the firepit, joining two couples who were traveling separately from nearby areas. One couple arrived by boat, the other by car. Together we exchanged travel tips over cocktails, with nearby water views. Tables are available inside as well as in front, with views of this beautiful brick historic town and its abundant flowers. We were enchanted by the venue, and would recommend the Sea Level Oyster Bar based solely on atmosphere and location. This bustling restaurant and bar appeared to us to be the most popular, sought out spot to enjoy historic Newburyport and all that it has to offer. I wish that we had dined here.

The Paddle Inn is an establishment that is not for everyone. They like to have fun and put a positive energy into everything they do. They redefine service by guaranteeing the menu until 10pm then shifting to a late night menu if you rolled in after. Unheard of in the Newburyport restaurant scene. The food is solid and fresh. The drinks are strong and carefully crafted. The beer list is always being refined. The music is not what you would expect in the best possible way. The staff is there when you need them but not overbearing. The Thai fries are so good. The mussels deliver amazing value. The veggie tacos are money. The burger I hear rules. The list goes on. Can be a difficult place to roll with the kids unless you go early in my opinion but just perfect for a night out with friends, date night or even solo you will feel at home. Paddle Inn is winning cause they earn it every day. Stop by and give them a high five from Luke and step into their world for a few.

We have eaten at the Poynt a few times, it has a nice location and atmosphere with a lively bar area. Very modern, open layout. The food has been consistently good and the service excellent. The only downside is that it can be difficult to hold a conversation, as is common in these open layouts. Now I would only go for lunch or if I knew it was going to be less busy.Hi Robert,We are glad you enjoy our atmosphere, food and service. We understand it can get quite noisy when we are busy! Be sure to visit us for lunches on Thursdays & Fridays during the summer. Thank you for taking the time to review us, we appreciate the feedback. Thanks,Katie

This is a great location, and they've landscaped so that it's beautiful outside as well. They had some great choices in terms of food, and what we had was really good - lobster bisque had plenty of lobster in it, and the lobster roll was delicious. However, the service was slow (our server disappeared at times - one time to bring me water, which never materialized) and the lack of cleanliness was really off-putting. I've attached a photo of some sort of fixture hanging from overhead our table - and it's covered in cobwebs. Long, drippy cobwebs. (In early September - this wasn't a Halloween decoration). And a bug in the sink in the bathroom which I reported to the people at the host stand who could not have cared less. There's such potential there - I want to believe that at dinner time the service would better, but there's still the issue of the cobwebs, which didn't happen overnight.Hello, and thank you for writing about our establishment. I'm happy you enjoyed your food and our views. Being an indoor / outdoor restaurant, we do open ourselves to insects coming in, despite precautions we take such as air blowers above doorways. I'm sorry you felt the host did not care about your observation, but I do recall a host getting me for that exact reason in September. Whether it was your instance or another I am not sure. Thank you again for coming to see us and we hope you will come by the next time you are in the area. Regards,Beau

Promptly seated for table for 6. Drinks, apps arrived promptly followed by a great variety of luncheon sandwiches, burgers. Cozy/Tavern atmosphere--Fish Tacos, Rueben, Thomas Burger and quesodillas (child's menu) were enjoyed by all! Service from start to finish was prompt and attentive. Affordable. Food was tasty--no issues. Highly recommend.

We enjoyed eating at this restaurant close to the waterfront. The place was bustling on a Saturday evening, but we were able to get an inside table. Wine by the glass was pricey, although the serving was generous. I ordered flounder, which was really fresh and came with a heap of garlic potatoes and squash. Our server was great, however, as she cleared the table, she broke my husband's water glass. An unfortunate accident that she apologized profusely for.

Walking to downtown from our guest house we passed the MSG and noticed that they were running a happy hour special so we ventured into the converted church. To our delight, everything on the âBarâ menu was 1/2 price. We chose a shrimp cocktail, a flatbread pizza and a burger. Each was delicious and we were delighted we stopped. We recommend. Thank you, DJMCCG. We look froward to welcoming you back again - our bar menu is a great deal, right? Thank for your great review & for stopping in.

Good food, courteous staff, fair prices. Full of locals which usually means consistent food quality. We always look for a restaurant with a lot of locals. We had chicken salad and tuna salad. Pretty normal fair. The freshness was noticeable. The chicken salad was homemade. The place was packed for lunch and it was past 2:00 oâclock. An Enjoyable quick meal.
