Things to do in Laurel
A full-service Authentic Kebab House right out of Dubai, serving traditional Kebabs, steaks, and south-Asain dishes.
Stopped in for lunch yesterday while passing through the area. Lots of interesting things on the menu but I ended up with the Lamb Palao. Was surprised to find the shank bones in the meal but it was really good. Had a nice kick to it. Server was friendly and pretty attentive. Prices are par for the course for a lamb dish. I'd stop by again if I get the chance.

I had a hankering for good Indian food in the Jessup Maryland area and searched Trip Advisor. This gem came up so I decided to order take out - I could not be more pleased. Fast online delivery and an extensive menu. I ordered the Meat Samosas - generous sized portions (2) of deep fried pastry filled with mildly spiced lamb and peas. The Chicken Makahni was a very rich and tasty cream sauce with a mild spice and heat and bite sized pieces of chicken. The garlic naan was a delicate oven baked bread brushed with buttery garlic. All items were the perfect temperature when I returned to my hotel room to eat - 10 minutes away. Staff was very welcoming and quick to provide my order. I'll definitely return when I'm back in this area.

Gourmet Shish Kebab closed for a while to undergo some much needed renovation. We returned this evening and was told it had reopened in late 2015. The restaurant was painted, has new tables and chairs, new lighting, remodeled restrooms, and an expanded menu. Most people seem to use it for carry-out meals. The owner is the same and the food is just as good. I had the beef kebab and my wife the lamb kebab. The expanded menu now includes some Indian/Pakistani dishes. There was a sign saying the restaurant is closed on Mondays. Now that it's open again, we'll be returning on a regular basis.

We were amazed at the bill for our basic vegetarian meal. Also the waiting time was ridiculous (half hour!). Quality wise was not ideal and my wife did get tummy issues after.

At Sapphire Restaurant & Sports Bar, you will find authentic Indian & Thai cuisine that can't be beat. We're proud to serve the city of Laurel, MD.
On the way home today we stopped at Sapphire with low expectations as most restaurants in Laurel are meh.... Upon first approach in the strip mall we were not impressed and I also don't like restaurants that are dark with closed curtains. We entered a restaurant that reminded me of India (so I was relieved) although they had some left over Italian embellishments like pictures on the walls and bottles of what appeared to be olives. We were the only ones in the restaurant for about 15 minutes, which also was not a good sign. We ordered the appetizer pani puri which were little puffs stuffed with potatoes and peas, they were good. We ordered Veggie Jalfrezi and vegetable stew like dish with mixed veggies and roasted broccoli that was excellent. Also had the Aloo matar peas with potatoes in a creamy sauce that was also excellent. The rice that accompanied the meal was cooked to perfection. The portions were generous, the price was reasonable and the service was good. When in Laurel I would definitely return to this hidden gem. Thanks for joining us -- we're pleased to have surpassed your expectations! We hope you'll stop by to see us again soon. All the best. - Arun, Owner/ Operator

I usually turn my nose up at the local Indian lunch buffets because they have so few and so unimaginative food options. The weekend buffet at Amber Spice totally exceeded my expectations, with a much wider variety of dishes, each of which was well prepared. There were plenty of breads, raita, chutney, etc. to accompany a wide array of vegetarian and meat dishes. Service was also first rate: we were quickly seated and waiters stopped by periodically to refresh our drinks, take away plates, inquire about dessert, and settle our bill. The restaurant is no secret: there were lots of other people stopping by for lunch, including many Indians, which is always a positive indicator of good food. The price point was very fair, given the high quality of the food and the fact that it is all you can eat.
