It is a planned community consisting of 10 self-contained villages. It began with the idea that a city could enhance its residents' quality of life. Creator and developer James W. Rouse saw the new community in terms of human values, rather than merely economics and engineering. Opened in 1967, Columbia was intended to not only eliminate the inconveniences of then-current subdivision design, but also eliminate racial, religious, and class segregation.

My wife and I recently visited the Panera in Columbia while in Maryland for an ice hockey tournament. The restaurant was very clean and the service was very good as well. Weâve been to many Panera locations and have never been disappointed. This visit was the same. The food was excellent.

I went here for lunch with two knitting friends, thinking it was a new lunch deli. My daughter disabused me of that notion when she said she was having lunch here over 15 years ago! Hidden away in an office park behind KFC, you wouldn't find it without the signs leading the way. Neighborhood kind of place even though in an office building, friendly service, quiet surroundings, and the food is delicious and a great value. Sandwiches were so huge we each took half home for dinner. Will be back for sure but wish it were open more than a few hours, Monday thru Friday!
