Maryland, United States Food Guide: 10 Balti food Must-Eat Restaurants & Street Food Stalls in Baltimore

December 3, 2019 Agatha Simes

Reviews on Balti food in Baltimore, Maryland, United States. Since the redevelopment of the Inner Harbor in the late 1970s, Baltimore has set the standard for urban renewal. While a good part of the city's action centers around the fun and festive Harbor area, where street entertainers, open-air concerts, fireworks and parades abound, the surrounding neighborhoods offer all sorts of interesting landmarks, unique shops and delicious restaurants. Wander around Fells Point, the oldest section of Baltimore, reminiscent of an old English village, complete with pubs and cobblestone streets. Take the kids to the aquarium and check out the imaginative creations at the American Visionary Art Museum. Or stop by the Babe Ruth Birthplace and Museum for an in-depth look at the Great Bambino's life. Baltimore is also renowned for its African-American heritage sites, plus festivals and cultural events that take place throughout the year. From historic places and harbor cruises to family friendly attractions and fabulous neighborhoods, Charm City is one of the top tourist destinations in the United States.

Small restaurant, well located near the Babe Ruth museum. After a visit, why not stop at the Corner Bistro and Wine bar. The menu card is small but offers nice food for a quick delight... and maybe a longer one with a glass of wine. My loved ones enjoyed crab cakes. Our friend had pasta with sea food. We liked the place and service was friendly. We will go back.

Jimmy's Famous Seafood

Reviewed By ASBx

Jimmy’s Famous Seafood has become a destination for the family. We plan our road trips around being able to dine at Jimmy’s at some point. The crab cake is hands down the best in Maryland but we try something new every time we go. This time it was the shrimp scampi toast. Delicious! All the buttery, garlicky notes of shrimp scampi on a piece of garlic toast soaked in the scampi sauce. The food and service here never disappoint. This time we left room for desert and it seems like it’s all prepared in house and it is delicious as well. The creme brûlée is money as are the carrot cake and the chocolate blackout cake. We devoured them before realizing we didn’t snap any pics. Most of the seafood and desserts are available to take home in the carry out section of the restaurant. Make sure to grab some crab cakes to go!

Blue Hill Tavern

Blue Hill is classic Baltimore: oldish, medium-sized, served by skilled, hip wait staff, and serving delicious food in a pleasant, mostly contemporary atmosphere on a street corner with plenty of light and peeks at the streets. I'd go back. Nice that it's near Canton and Feels Point w/o being right in the crowded main drag. Thanks for noting if this helped; hope so.

August Sunday and last dinner with our new freshman college. This clean, contemporary bar/restaurant is just a few blocks from the Washington Monument and walking distance for us. The restaurant/bar is larger than it appears, with at least 2 bar areas as well as seating areas. We were fairly early on this Sunday night, and were promptly seated in the second(?) bar area. Lovely booth and server/bartender lowered the blinds due to the sun. We had her and the room to ourselves for a few minutes. Drinks were prompt and quite good - don't pass up on current specialties. We ordered the Brussel sprouts as an appetizer. Nicely crispy with a lovely dipping sauce, but could have been cooked until just a little softer. The complimentary focaccia is also a nice touch. Our entrees were good as well: I had the soft shell crab sandwich special, spouse had the brisket one, and adult kid went for the truffle porcini ravioli. No complaints - all were well cooked and served in a very reasonable time. All in all, a nice last dinner before leaving our kiddo at college for this freshman year. I'm sure that we'll be back over these next few years.

Gertrude's

Four of us were tired and hungry after walking the art galleries, and we did not have a reservation (recommended), but the pleasant hostess seated us quickly. Although tempted by a fine wine-by-the-glass list, we were tired and settled for peach iced tea, which was fabulous. We ordered summer soups that had the right mix of spice and cool, and each of us had small plates or sandwiches that were just the right amount. My portobello mushroom with crab imperial was outstanding. Gertrude’s would be an excellent choice as a stand-alone restaurant, but it really enhances a visit to the museum. We are so glad that you had such a great time at both the museum and Gertrude's! We hope to see you back again soon.

Koco's Pub

Thanks to all the tripadvisor reviews we ended up going down to Baltimore for one night from Hershey, PA. Our quest was for the best crab cake and our mission was accomplished.Location is outside of Baltimore close to Morgan State in a little neighborhood corner bar. I love corner bars so it was right up my alley. Parking was hard to find - FYI.Now my wife and I lived in Delaware for a few years and would drive down to the Inner Harbor a few times a month. Love the Italian area and Fell's point. Have been eating Maryland Crabs and Crab Cakes for over 20 years. Used to go to Obrickys (??) before they closed down around 10 years ago, maybe more? Anyway, Koco's crab cakes are the best hand's down we have ever had. They are an 11 ounce softball size ball of 95% crab meat with 5% breaded filler to hold them together. Now they are expensive until you put into perspective:1 - they are huge and one crab cake is enough for two people. That said I would never share mine :)2- some things are worth and these are! My wife made a very good point when we were debating to order 6 to take home! She said you know you pay $25 for a lobster roll on a small hot dog bun and little lobster meat, so true. Plus we like Crab better then Lobster anyway. We were going to give two crab cakes to our neighbors across the street and two to the neighbors right next to use becuase we all have dinner/drinks at each others houses routinely. We ended up only saving 2 and when we had them over that week we just served the two as an appetizer. They could not believe how good they are.I will never go back to Baltimore again without a first stop to Koco's. In fact, I might look for a Marriott (my go to hotel chain) as close to Koco's as possible and go there both days and maybe go to the inner harbor :)
