Miku Japanese

We have been enjoying this restaurant for several years and the owner Michael who also runs the kitchen is doing an amazing job. The Sashimi Combo is fantastic along with really all dishes on offer. It is a great place for a quick healthy Japanese meal with all the trimmings making this culture experience so special. Why travel all the way into the CBD when you can go to Miku’s

Kobe Teppanyaki Japanese Restaurant

It was one of our family's 18th birthday, so his parents arranged a table for 16 and most of the immediate family came to celebrate. We had a fun night. Several of those present had never experienced the teppanykaki style of cooking. They really enjoyed seeing the chefs use the very hotplate to cook the food. We had one of the set menus. I think it was $55 per head, which is not cheap but there was plenty of food and management allowed a cake from outside to be cut and served with our choice of ice cream.Basically the meal began with pickles, sweet potato spring rolls, then a small salad each. Two vegetarians were well catered for and had their food cooked first. At this point the chefs began to cook fish, chicken, and beef, plus beansprouts. The final act was the fried rice, which featured ribbons of omlette. This was the time when bits of omlette were fired at the mouths of anyone willing to try to catch the egg in their mouth. Only the grandparents refused! Later bowls were launched at the hands of the diners. The floor was pretty messy when a couple of people missed the bowl filled with fried rice! All good fun.We took our own wine. Not sure what the corkage was. It was an enjoyable evening.

Mogu Mogu

Came here for dinner with a couple of friends and enjoyed ourselves overall. I felt the restaurant had a bit of an identity crisis. The food is good quality and some effort also goes into presentation. The interior design is fairly minimalist but co-ordinated. Nonetheless, there is no table service (though foood IS brought to the table after ordering), staff did not greet us when we arrived, and simple requests were ignored.Seating is a bit cramped and overall there aren't that many tables. This isn't a huge restaurant, though there are a few tables outside on the footpath as well. I believe they take limited reservations.Food was tasty and of a good quality. While serving sizes weren't huge, they were adequate. I paid $22 for a Bento Box here, whilst in the past I've paid around $20 for one at Momoco Sushi in Heidelberg, and I've also paid $11.80 for one at J.J Sushi in Carnegie. All were pretty good. This was a nice restaurant for a casual dinner, but asking diners to order and pay upfront at the counter, and not bringing out glasses for the water station when asked twice, plus ignoring guests when they walk in without so much as a glance up or a smile - these are areas where Mogu Mogu needs to improve if they want to step it up a notch and be on par with other restaurants in the area. Either way, worth a visit, and I'll probably be back sometime.
