One of the best restaurants in Douro region. I tried the bacalhau (codfish) and the polvo and both were delicious.
Ask for their Serra da Estrela cheese as an appetizer and you will not regret.
Also they have good variety of 1/2 wine bottles, which is good when your partner is not drinking.
Price is right for the food quality, about 15 euros each individual plate.

Have passed by this place every year on the way to visit grandma. Finally stopped in today. Best steak in Portugal. Tender and flavorful. "Posta a magarenha" was delicious. Average prices. Huge place. No Reservations accepted so may have to wait for a table but well worth it.

I'm sorry to say that the best thing about this place is the staff. Not that is a bad thing, but for a restaurant that used to be top class, the standards have really gone downhill.
Susana, is the nicest waitress that I've ever got served by. She has got the skills to do better and improve this place but nobody is allowed to change or recommend something.
In this recession times, the food quality can't be dropped and think that costumers won't notice it. Very disappointed food for what you used to get. Wish I could go back in time and enjoy one of the best "serra e mar" that used to be served here.
Won't be back and wish that owners would do a bit more for this place

This is a simple restaurant, nothing posh in here. The key is the good food, real traditional dishes very well cooked with very quality ingredients, served on large portions.
PROS
- Food quality: great food, well cooked using quality ingredients. The menu changes everyday.
- Located in the city center, there´s a free car park just across the road.
CONS
- nothing in particular, in 3 days staying in the city I had all my meals here except two. And the 2 others places I tried were far bad comparing to this restaurant.
DO I WILL RETURN?
- If back in Mangualde, for sure I will.
PRICE:
- average meal with drinks and dessert per person is around 10€. But it is possible to reduce the price with a careful choice from the menu.

I had heard so much about this restaurant before visiting it. To be honest I did not had a close look at the menu since we were there for the famous sea food rice.....that did not disappoint. The restaurant is quite small so the trick is to arrive early. Also, if you are into fine dinning this is not the place to go, however if you like good food and sea food this is the place to go. Considering the amount of food you get it has a good price/quality/quantity relation.

The Paço dos Cunhas restaurant is located in the Portuguese historic village of Santar, 20 kms from the city of Viseu.
The beautiful property is dated from the seventeen century and it is well preserve. The restaurant is lovely like the garden and the rest of the property. The food is fantastic. It is a fusion of traditional Portuguese food and modern “cuisine”. It is quite different from the traditional local restaurants. The service is professional and you can enjoy the good “Dão” (Portuguese region) wine one of the most famous in Portugal.

It's a very attended restaurant, mainly for takeaway, chicken and pizzas. But there´s also a few table.
I tried the chicken and some grilled squids, in fact the food was ok regarding quality of the ingredients, but the seasoning i didn't like, either the barbecued chicken or the squids had a vinegar flavour. Definitely not normal in both!
Also the room is very narrow, and very noisy.
In fact wasn't a pleasant meal! I decided to not return there.

The restaurant is quite small, but has a pleasant atmosphere. The food is very good and the portions are beyond imagination. Excellent staff. Very good prices. Strongly recommended.

This restaurant is excellent, but it's not fancy at all. It has a warm and friendly atmosphere, and it is full of locals, so it is best to book a table ahead of time. Even though it was full of locals the very sweet waitress spoke English and helped us order. We had grilled octopus, local specialty, which was excellent and also we had pork with a chestnut sauce. Everything was great, including the house wine, which was local, and little fried snacks that they serve when you first arrive. It is a really great place. It is recommended in Charles Metcalfe's Wine and Food Lover's Guide to Portugal.

We found lots of parking and very local food at this modern Portuguese restaurant. The were staff were very professional, courteous and helpful; there was also a menu in English. At first it was a little confusing with meals shown as half or full portions; we ordered two half portions meals and they were enormous - three to four diners could manage with just one full portion. A good wine list, excellent cooking of truly local ingredients and efficient service made this a surprisingly good choice, and it was also very inexpensive. A really nice meal, thank you.
