Taipa-Mangonui is one name given to a string of small resort settlements in the far north of New Zealand's North Auckland Peninsula, close to the base of the Aupouri Peninsula. We loved the whitebait special -frittata with a scattering if crispy fried whitebait and salad. The frittata was loaded with those wonderful whitebait, and I haven’t had such wonderful crispy fried whitebait since my youthful days in Christchurch where Fails Cafe did them so well.
Service was excellent, and waiting time was a minimum.
We will eat there next time we make it North.

We had a look around the small area at what was on offer. We were well aware of the “world famous” other fish and chip shop. The prices were pretty steep! We decided to have a drink at the pub and then ordered dinner at the adjoining takeaway shop. We were not disappointed! We were already sold as a result of the TA reviews! We shared a seafood chowder which was full of fresh seafood hot and very tasty followed by snapper and chips. The fish and chips were cooked to perfection with fresh oil so they were fresh crispy and tasty! We sat outside in the beer garden at the pub with our drinks and enjoyed a beautiful meal. Trust me great value for money all up including sauces our meal was $34! Wow! You will not be disappointed! We are planning to go back another night for fish burgers!

We had three wonderfully flavoured dishes - green curry, beef pad khing and "angry pig" - a reasonably priced sauvignon blanc and excellent freshly squeezed orange juice (from the owners' farm). Service was outstanding - quick and friendly. We'll be going there again and again.

Absolutely lovely - although we arrived outside breakfast time they were very accommodating with cooking eggs Benedict for my husband, while the rest of our party had food from the servery. Everything was tasty and we really enjoyed sitting under the big umbrellas in the outdoor courtyard. Great service, very attentive waiters and good value

I went there almost every day while I was in Taipa as it is a lovely spot overlooking the sea and the staff were so friendly and chatty. I would sit on the bench outside with my glass of wine or bottle of McLeod's craft beer just enjoying the view and the fresh air. The wine was reasonably priced at $8 for a white wine or $10 for a very nice Rose. Well worth stopping for refreshment if passing by but a special mention must go to the lovely staff

I never expected Indian restaurant in this area. But our motel owner suggested us to try and we came on busy Friday night.staff was very friendly and accomodating. Butter chicken and lamb korma was superb. Though we got food after 25 minutes wait. But we understand it can get busy on weekends. Never mind.will visit again for sure.

We had heard about the Mangonui Fish Shop and despite some of the reviews we were still keen to try it. If only we had believed what we had read, we'd have saved ourselves from having a very disappointing evening. The food is at best OK but it is definitely overpriced and served by staff who give a great appearance of not wanting to be there and not caring less. The Fish Shop makes a great virtue out of serving fish from sustainable sources (highly laudable) but then all "cutlery " and sauce pots are from single use plastic much of which ends up in the ocean adversely affecting all marine life. Very disappointing to put it mildly. Undoubtedly the coach tours from the Cape will continue to stop at the Fish Shop (why??) but if you have a choice, do not eat here if you want good food and good service. Better options exist in Mangonui.

Prompt friendly service. Fresh and tasty fish and chips and nice coffee. Well worth another visit. The food in the cabinet looked inviting with good selection. And homemade bread too.
