Long before I visited this area I enjoyed seeing my friend's Facebook posts about this quaint local establishment. A few days ago we reconnected for a delicious Sunday breakfast here. My friend enjoyed her eggs benedict while I gleefully devoured the home-baked French toast with a generous raspberry compote with a side of bacon. Service was rather slow on this busy Sunday, yet always friendly. Slate's has a full bar which neither of us was ready to take advantage of this particular morning, yet it's nice to know it's there. If you want to truly experience this funky little town that is chartered as a "city," experience Slate's.

The Liberal Cup Public House & Brewery in Hallowell, ME, is our take on the traditional English pub. Our mission is to provide a gathering place for our local friends and seasonal visitors to enjoy good food and drink. Like the pubs that dot the English c
Came here to have dinner while staying locally. The service was friendly and quick. Beer was very good and food was the same.

Like Road House as a rule but what we've discovered at all the Road House we've dined in, they chi chinged us to death. Once our bill was $20 over the price of our meals with taxes. Here comes the Chi Ching.......they charge an extra $1.99 here & there for a topping, a $1.00 extra for drinks on the rocks.etc. So be careful when they ask you if you'd like something added to the dish there's a chi ching to go with it. One waiter was bragging to us how he was their best sales person, this is the one that we spent an extra $20 buckaroonies. Beware, yes means a smaller wallet. I've never had a restaurant charge us extra for every little thing but last night the ice was an extra $1.00, come on...............we decided before we went to make sure not to say yes to any questions the wait staff asked so our bill stayed the same but the ice got us last night. Some don't care but I do........most places tell you there's an extra charge for add ons.....

Good food every time I stop in. I have my favorites on the menu, but the specials are just as good. The Prime Rib dip is worth a trip when it is on the menu.

It was my first visit to Pepperâs and I went specifically to hear Kenny Cox and Dick Dow. I was disappointed to see there was absolutely no room in the very small bar area where they were set up. I understand it was raining and they are usually outside where there is plenty of space. We went into the dining room hoping to be able to hear them and saw plenty of space where the musicians could have been placed. Very disappointing. The meal was great, a lobster roll with a just enough lettuce and plenty of lobster for a reasonable $15. Sandy, our waitress was wonderful. She was very busy but checked on us regularly and was so pleasant. We would have stayed longer and bought more beer if we could have only heard the musicians. When I go again if it is raining unless the musicians are not in the the bar I wonât be staying nor will my 5 friends.

Sorry, but tasteless roast beef sandwiches and greasy fries and onion rings. This was our second visit and the first was no better. We wanted to be fair and give them a second try. Will not go back again.

We stop by Full Court at least once a week, either for breakfast or lunch. The food is always fresh, appetizing and delicious. The staff is wonderful, greeting and serving everyone with a smile, and always going the extra mile to ensure their customersâ comfort and satisfaction. For a small place they have a wide variety of deli meats and cheeses, fresh veggies to garnish their sandwiches, a lots of love in their preparation of food. All this in a cozy atmosphere loaded with basketball (and other sports) memorabilia with an emphasis on our beloved Boston Celtics.

Fast Eddies is a wonderful drive-in right off Rte.202 in Winthrop, Maine. The servers and staff are down home warm and friendly. It's a burger and ice cream place that serves up smiles and comfort food generously on both accounts. My family and all my cousins visit any time we're in the area because it's like seeing old friends and sharing a good simple meal. All the kids love to play on the swings while the parents watch on licking their cones etc. Do yourself a favor and stop by and take a step back to the 50's...and be reminded that friendly service and a smile don't cost anything extra. Can't wait to go back!
