We loved this market while we vacationed on Bailey's island. It has a small selection of general grocery items, alcohol, friendly workers and a restaurant. We went to all the "best" lobster restaurants and our group LOVED the lobster roll's here. We went back several times to grab a roll. No mayo, warmed with butter. Yummy!!

Estes Lobster House

Visited Estes last night. We were told 15 minute wait. Got there about 6:40. 3 small children. Waited, waited, waited. "5 more minutes" from Damien, the lying host. We were finally seated 1 hour 20 minutes after we arrived. Children were totally exhausted at that point and so were we. If we had been told the truth we could have left and gone elsewhere. Before 7 pm we heard them telling anyone coming in the door that they couldn't seat anyone else as they were too backed up (several tables were open the entire time we waited). Food was average when we finally got it but poor service. Very poor management is obvious at this restaurant.

Bailey Island General Store

The food service is one part of this small town, classic coastal Maine experience. The trip across the "crib stone" bridge to Bailey island to get here is great all by itself. The local staff that does the food knew everyone and everything about the island. It was fun just talking with them. The food was outrageously good. The pancakes with fresh blueberries were great. The french toast was excellent also. The local US Coast Guard patrol boat stopped there for lunch too - a sure sign it is the best in the area. After stopping here, continue on a few minutes to "lands end" where the road ends at the ocean.

Cook's Lobster & Ale House

We usually go to Morse’s across from Cook’s and just over the cribstone bridge. It was closed so we took our company to Cook’s. It was horrible. We’ve had excellent lobster stew there in the past and two of ordered it. It tasted and looked like used dishwater. Plenty of lobster but the stock was thin and tasted awful. Will not go back. Sorry you were unhappy with your lobster stew but there are many wonderful things on the menu aside from that. A 1 star rating seems harsh if that is the only thing you are judging us on. Our stew base is lobster stock made with actually lobster bodies from the fresh lobsters we pick daily. It does change the color of the stew when it is prepared, not sure dish water is the proper word I would use to describe it. Yes, it is thin as are our chowders. If you had it there before and you enjoyed it, perhaps giving us a second try would be appropriate instead of saying you will not come back. I hope you mentioned something to your server. We want all our guests to leave happy. We would have been more than happy to get you something else to make your experience with us a positive one.

Had our dogs with us and were able to sit on their deck with our fur babies. Our party ordered a burger, steak and cheese, fried shrimp and chicken wrap. We were all pleased with our choice to stop here. Attentive service, food delivered hot and fresh. They have lots of seafood options.

We came with 8 visiting friends for dinner. Service was excellent, something that is difficult to achieve with large parties. Our friends enjoyed their food and the view. Particular favorites were the calamari and the scallop appetizers. Those who ordered non-stewed fish found them overcooked. The sauce with the mussels was too salty. But overall, a good experience.

I was in Harpswell for a mini vacation for 3 days. Let me start by saying we went twice because of the Lobster roll. I would give a 10 on that but had an issue with the seafood chowder and the person who waited on me. I asked what was in the seafood chowder and was told all mixed seafoods, lobster, clams, haddock and more. The flavor was wonderful, BUT I found one tiny piece of a clam, a tiny piece of lobster, and something else that was red, maybe a shrimp. 99% of it was haddock. After two bites, I returned to the window and told her there was not any other seafood I could find, and the girl said yes it is mostly haddock. I told her I specially asked because I am not a fish chowder lover, I will eat haddock in a Seafood Chowder but I would NEVER order a whole cup of fish chowder. She also told me they do not make fish chowder that it IS Seafood chowder. . I told her I was not happy with it and she said, sorry but you ate most of it. TWO spoonfulls. She came back and gave me a tiny plastic cup with more of the seafood chowder in it. So she said, I looked at it with my spoon and again 100% haddock. I ate the broth and thew out over a 1/2 cup of fish. Second time ordered clam chowder which was good and especially liked that it had no potatoes in it. What ever happend to the customer is always right? I was NOT trying to pull a scam, I pd more for this then the clam chowder and asked if she would exchange mine for 1/2 cup of the clam chowder and her answer was bluntly NO.

Driving past this restaurant several times during our stay, it was always busy, decided to stop and check out what the hype was about. We do not have much opportunity to eat fresh seafood,Disappointing scallops, undercooked and the breading was mushy. Our server was so nice and very attentive. We had a table by a window, scenery was nice.
