Downtown Diner

Was formerly the Bond Brook Pancake House, Mt Vernon Ave, Augusta, ME. Owners had an opportunity to move into a restored, historic building in the heart of the downtown business district. Even managed to preserve a stained-glass storefront-wide window adv

The setting is loaded with classic blue-collar New England History. Located right by the river and in a downtown setting, the parking is limited so look for the parking around back. The service is brisk, professional and somewhat indicative of Maine's surly stand-offish style but it is slightly warmed up here because it is clearly a place for regulars. The Corned Beef hash is seared nicely but bland, the toast is outstanding and so are the breakfast sandwiches which have a homey quality being made with sliced sausage links instead of patties. With all of the skill and experience they have, they should add a bloody Mary or Mimosa for the weekend and think about reaching outside the box with a shakshouka or scotch egg.

Let's face it, all Starbucks are the same when it comes to their coffee and food. I regularly come to this Starbucks and the service is always professional and courteous. One customer service experience that stuck out was when one of the baristas took the time to explain to me the benefits of registering my gift card. I have been collecting points ever since. I can't put my finger on it but this Starbucks is just a little more friendly and intimate than most.

Sandwiches are prepared fresh to order - a good sized sandwich board to pick from and wonderful homemade soups. Bagels are fresh from a local bakery shop (made fresh daily) and the muffins and other sweets and goodies are made fresh by the owner. New owner has given it a bright, fresh, friendly vibe which is a nice change. Just heard they are now open on Saturdays as well.

I have been to Britt's a few times while in the building for work. I have ordered the same sandwich every time. No idea why, it just worked out that way.
