Indoor and Outdoor Seating on two levels overlooking the Kennebec River in Historic Downtown Hallowell. Casual Dining with a full menu and Daily Specials. Full Bar. Function Rooms Available.
I met friends for a late lunch and since it was a beautiful day, we sat out on the deck overlooking the river. Lovely! We shared the grilled shrimp cocktail kebabs with 3 dipping sauces (cocktail sauce, spicy Thai, and garlic aioli). Very tasty! I ordered the crab cakes with green goddess sauce ($14.99). The two large delicious crab cakes came with a salad. Great cocktails, also, albeit a bit on the pricey side. Friendly service! We'll be back!

30 Beers on Tap rotating all the time so always something new to try. Excellent food selection and unique choices. Come try our Crane Burger, handmade mozza wedges, duck fat fries or our amazing Quarry Salad. We have something for everyone. Monday January
Great beer selection, great food. But....and I can't stress this enough.....Hallowell, Maine is as close to being Derry, Maine as any town. It looks so much like the town in both movies and for goodness sake - The Quarry? Tap room? There's even a quarry. I was there in July and the only things missing were a giant statue of Paul Bunyan and a pesky clown. Loved this bar and grill. Great warm decor and creative use of old beer kegs in the men's room ; )

My wife and I are regulars at the Toad. It's a bit like a smaller and much more rural version of Cheers. The food is very good (I recommend the pub club and also the mac & cheese appetizer if they have it as a special). Service is excellent, with a special nod to Brelyn, who is outstanding. Last but not least, there are more than enough beer options to satisfy everyone's tastes, and the taps built into the old Chevy pick-up tailgate is very cool. You can also catch your favorite team on one of the TV's. Highly recommended.

You know those drive-thrus that make you feel nervous from the mandatory task of negotiating the parking lot? I'm young & nimble. I used to read we cars. I feel this restaurant's tarmac needs attention. So does its need to focus its young employees so fast food can be delivered at reasonable speeds.

We discovered this restaurant years ago but only last summer did we discover their Seafood Chowder! Wow! This Chowder is wonderful! It's full of seafood only, not potatoes! There's only 4 types of fish in their Chowder: scallops, haddock, shrimp & lobster! And available in 2 sizes of bowls and accompanied with a yeast roll, if you order the larger size! This is a local restaurant that's been in the central Maine area for over 40 yrs & looks a lot like its original 50's / 60's decor!

Long before I visited this area I enjoyed seeing my friend's Facebook posts about this quaint local establishment. A few days ago we reconnected for a delicious Sunday breakfast here. My friend enjoyed her eggs benedict while I gleefully devoured the home-baked French toast with a generous raspberry compote with a side of bacon. Service was rather slow on this busy Sunday, yet always friendly. Slate's has a full bar which neither of us was ready to take advantage of this particular morning, yet it's nice to know it's there. If you want to truly experience this funky little town that is chartered as a "city," experience Slate's.

Popular and busy place with decent food and prices. It was a very warm, muggy day when we were there. Every air conditioner was blasting (right at our table, it seemed). We asked the server if she could turn them down and were told that "it was either on or off," she couldn't lower them. I am sure that the temperature in the kitchen was insufferably hot, but as a result, the enjoyability of our meal was greatly diminished in that the food did not stay hot for very long and we were so cold that we ate in a hurry. I ordered one of the specials of the day which was a lobster roll. The lobster was fresh and delicious. However, The pieces were so huge that when I took a bite, it was quite messy and difficult and unsightly to eat. We were a group of 8. I received my meal a full 10 minutes after the first meal came out, which made it awkward for the others to wait while their food was getting cold.

This place is fantastic. A local joint, bring an open mind especially after 10!! The waitress was tremendous, the food was superbly bad, but soooooo worth it. Who has crinkle cut sweet potato fries? The ambiance is âpubâ âold schoolâ but cozy.Good size parking lot for parking directly across the street. Great selection of food, beers and drinks.Donât go to Augusta without stopping here.Steak and Cheese and Wings are fantastic.

For a small town diner, they surely offer a variety of menu items: Korean BBQ sliders, soba noodles, and traditional American fare. They also had a pretty extensive beer and wine list. Food was very good and we will definitely come back when we are in the area again. Try the Maine Ginger Beer.
