As regular local visitors we arrived at 17:45 (15 minutes before food being served apparently). We ordered drinks collected our own menus and went to sit in the restaurant.18:05 we positioned ourselves at a table awaiting someone to come and take our order. Nobody appeared so my wife went to the bar to order food and another drink. We wanted to order a starter but was told there wasnât any Brie wedges available so we ordered 2 mains. 18:55 we were bought our food, Missing cheese sauce which had been ordered, this turned up 5 minutes later with much of the meal already eaten. Although we were in the restaurant we had to go to the visit the bar to get ourselves drinks. Although short staffed the young Blonde waitress was doing as much as she could to keep up with the bar and food but it was not enough to keep everyone happy. The pregnant waitress disappeared out back for a rest. Very busy for mid week, great food as usual let down by not enough attentive staff.

I was invited to a friend's Ruby Wedding celebration lunch held in a marquee at the rear of the premises . Unbelievably we were told we had to pay in advance for our pre chosen food with two alternative dishes . In addition we had to pay for any drinks we wished to consume with our meal . This of course was no fault of the restaurant but the food and drinks were very expensive . The food was served in dishes to the table of about 40 people who were expected to serve themselves - including pulling the meat from a lamb joint by one of the diners who served the table (which I think should have been done by one of tha waitresses ) .. The service was slow and the finished plates and dishes were left on the table without being cleared for about 20 minutes . The dessert portions , although very tasty , were miniscule .There were no condiments on the very large table and no offer of any . The venue itself is very attractive .

Should have done a review of this place ages ago as it's our favourite Pub in the area by miles and it's a long way from being our closest. Family Sunday lunch a couple of weeks ago for my Birthday was brilliant and not surprising as we have never had a bad experience in all the time we have been coming here. The friendly and relaxed atmosphere is underpinned with efficient service and super food. Looking forward to Christmas Day!Thank you for taking the time to post your review, it's always a pleasure to look after you and we also look forward to seeing you on Christmas (although no doubt before then too!) Kind regards, Marianne & Richard

Came here for Sunday lunch and was not disappointed. Great food and friendly service. The pork came with a very nice stuffing and lovely crackling. The Beef and Lamb were cooked to perfection and the cauliflower cheese that came with the vegetables was just so good. This was our first time here and we will be coming back. Great little place.

I have eaten here many times and would choose it for good pub grub - not fine dining but reliable and filling for a reasonable price. There's usually a range of tempting specials and the Christmas menu is always a good bet at a good price. It's the sort of place I'd take my parents to, or have a club meal at.

Had a family event for a significant birthday, standard was 3 courses, first was the usual sandwich, interesting choices Ham and mustard, coronation chicken, salmon, egg mayonnaise and one other - sandwichâs were ok but nothing special, nor real choice if you are going for standard. Then comes two scones, one plain and one fruit one, cream and jam, no butter and I must say a little tight with the cream and jam, I like mine smothered, but no chance here. Lastly come a choice of 5 each cheese cake, lemon meringue, chocolate, macaroon and rhubarb tart - small but very filling. All in all I did enjoy the venue with piano music and wonderful grounds.

We were staying locally and this was one of the places recommended by our host. Set in the local small square, this was a proper traditional and old fashioned local that had been really nicely decorated. Service was nice, not rushed and the food was very good.

Had Afternoon Tea for two here today using a Groupon voucher. Lovely homemade cakes on display but unfortunately you donât get them with the Afternoon Tea. It consisted of 8 finger sandwiches (ham and mustard, egg and cress, smoked salmon and cream cheese and cucumber), 4 cocktail sausage rolls, 2 fruit scones with cream and jam, and 6 tiny cakes that probably came from Bookers. Pleasant enough and good value for the £13.95 Groupon price but I would have been disappointed if Iâd paid the full price of £30.00. Come on guys, how about some of your lovely homemade cakes!
