Only learned when asked for the bill, that they had served us the most expensive fish possible, 4 times usual fish prices in other restaurants. We werenât shown any fish prices when ordering, only the different types of fish on a presentation salver. When I challenged them, the waiter was unapologetic and only then showed us the menu prices. Advise against dining here. We wanted to ask you our sincerest apologies. We worked hard to maintain a high level of service, but certainly not in your case. Situated in the heart of the old town, Taberna Ruel stood out among the array of other restaurants in the neighbourhood.The staff were welcoming and attentive and the restaurant itself is picturesque, with a pleasant courtyard at the back and exposed brickwork giving it a grotto feel.The food was well presented and tasty on the whole. However, we found the fish to be overly salted (and no, it wasnât bacalhau ). This was soon forgotten though when the delicious desserts arrived!Thank you for visiting us and enjoying our gastronomy, we always use quality products and we make our dishes with a lot of affection. As you liked, we thought you would like our other suggestions too, so do not forget to ask on a next visit, which we hope will be soon.

Cari is a smiling ,besutiful and nice person.she gives a verh good service.The food is very good.The filet mignon is in two different types.Both eere very good and mine pepperbeef was best.The straters were very good and the dessert too.The redwine was very good.The prices were low.We will be here more .Thanks to Alex who recommended this resturant where his girlfriend Cari is serving

Had the grilled squids and it was good and tasty, but the vegetables were over cooked and mushy. The wine selection could improve. The price/ quality is medium as the prices reflect the touristic area that the restaurant is located.

Second time at Planka Restaurant and everything wonderful! Staff very friendly food is speechless! A nice view! We had a nice white sangria very fresh not too much sweet it was perfect! We finish the lunch with house ice cream with nuts amazing! We will return! Greetings from Tiago & Vera

Have visited Madeira 4 times over a 12 year period and have eaten here on numerous occasions and have never been disappointed. Bolo do caco freshly cooked and lapas delicious. Tuna for main served with milho frito cooked traditionally unlike many other restaurants. Passion fruit pudding for dessert was amazing. All topped by exceptional service. Do yourself a favour- if you can only visit one restaurant make it this one.

Recommended by fellow traveller a stone's throw from our hotel. Offers speciality ales and delightful tapas. Portion sizes enormous. See photos! A labour of love for the owner, a chef who will bend backwards to give you tasty morsels and a very bubbly waitress. Went last night going again tonight. We visited here because of non existent service just down the road. Here, although only one member of staff front of house we were made immediately welcome and our drink order was taken right away. The recommended filet steak on a stone was excellent; succulent, tender and very tasty. The salmon steak and salad was OK, but this is real a meat eaters restaurant. The ambiance is a little quirky, but in keeping with the meat/western theme I guess. The steak was good value for money.
