Breezy Madeira is an eponymous island in the Madeira Islands, a Portuguese archipelago. The capital city of Funchal was settled in the 15th century and is a colorful collection of gardens, religious sites, and quirky tourist attractions like the thatched-roof Madeira Story Centre. Hike to the summit of Pico Ruivo and you’ll feel like you’ve climbed through the clouds. Unwind over a glass of Madeira wine, an historic fortified beverage that’s musky and subtly sweet.

We booked a table here after reading the positive comments on TripAdvisor. You can chose to sit at an inside table or from 2 separate outdoor areas. The staff were friendly, casual but also professional. We very much enjoyed all the food we chose along with the wine flights chosen by the restaurant to accompany the meal.We will return when we are back in Funchal next year.Dear Mrs Mar_di_graDorking,Thankyou for taking time to leave a remark. All reviews are very important to us and are seriously taken into high account. Obviously the more positive ones are more motivating since The Principal Bistrô team strives to do its upmost best to be worthy of your trust and future visit. Looking forward to seeing you soon. Positive reviews on tripadvisor made my wife and I want to visit this place. It looked like a cool quirky venue which offered something different. Really friendly lady served us and her english was very good. Starter was really poor. Our burgers werent really much better either. My bun was soggy and fell to pieces and the meat was really poor quality. It wasnt seasoned and it tasted just like eating mince meat in a bun.I think we must be just unlucky as the other reviews are really good.My salad was really good to be fair.Price was really cheap but maybe thats why our food wasnt as good as expected. Might be worth the punt but based on my experience I wouldnt go again

Stopped at this nice little place for a cup of coffee but ended up having a smoothie as well. Ordered the Red Berry and the Super Mango. Nice texture and very fresh. Our server brought us a shot of a different smoothie while we waited for ours, very attentive. Will definitely come back to try something else to drink and snack. So nice to hear from you. Thank you so much for the review. Please come back more often for more different flavour smoothies and juices. Don´t forget to visit us at the Madeira mall also. Thanks again.

We tried to find this restaurant last year, but geography has never been my strong point, and we failed miserably. We were actually just having a stroll and stumbled upon it on our return to Madeira this year. We booked fairly last minute through The Fork and thought that if it wasn't to our liking, we'd just have a main course, a drink and move on. Anyway, lovely staff greeted us and the covered courtyard away from the hustle and bustle of the City and the badgering of the waiting staff on Rua Santa Maria was a delight. We ended up sampling different wines (surrounded by birdsong and their home garden of herbs) and having a really lovely 3 course meal. Great care had been taken with the flavours and, although we had fish and pork for our main courses, they were both more inventive / creative than the standard fare. For example, my fish came on a bed of flavoured potatoes (fennel seed / Rosemary?) with roasted onions and toasted flaked almonds, plus a stuffed tomato - a very good sized portion, but I ate the lot. Please don't let the hidden location deter you, it's actually quite central once you know where it's hidden and becomes an all the more attractive proposition because of that. If you head up from the Marina road (Avenida do Mar) passing Theo's Bazar Cafe and the Golden Gate on your right, cross the road, and head straight up Avenida Zarco, there's the entrance to a medical practice and to the restaurant almost opposite you when you reach the next junction, and Bob's your Uncle - not off the beaten track at all, although it will feel like that when you get there. The Restaurant "Latada do Doutor" and the entire staff thank you for your excellent evaluation. It was a pleasure to serve you. We hope to see you soon. Best regards.
