Outside is quite deceptive, you think this a small 3 table place, then you go in and up the stairs to a large dinning area and an outside terrace. Food was very good, as was the selection of wines. Also service was good. Only downside was the size of the room with only a few customers, also can feel a bit cold.

As the reviews were very positive, we wanted to try this restaurant during our stay in Canico. We drove all the way up there and when we entered the restaurant where some locals were enjoying a beer, the only response we got was: we only open in half an hour.... oh well, thanks for the kind welcome! We went for dinner somewhere else, where we were greeted nicely and we had the feeling that someone actually wanted to have us as guests!

And this is the type of place where you have to go, at least to contemplate the beautiful bay of Funchal while snacking outside or having a full meal inside :-) the waiters are nice and polite. If you're not a smoking person and you want to delight your meal in the outside esplanade that is bent over the bay, be aware that you might be seating at a smoking person's table...The menu is varied and you find choices o fish and meet, but I advise you to try the traditional Madeiran plates like "Espada com Banana" and "Espetada" and of course some sweet delicacies made in-house. This restaurant is one of the best spots in Funchal to contemplate the fireworks during the last day of the year!!! You have the stunning wide open views over the bay!!! You see everything in the bay and in the hills in front of it!!!Also, this is a medium priced restaurant with very tasty foods. It is really worth a stop for a lunch or a dinner (if you have no time for long meals you can stop for a snack only) when visiting Funchal.

Went here for dinner. The service was quite slow, and the meal ok. I had pork which was very fatty and I left half the meat but my husbands fish platter was good. Lovely garden surroundings

If you're looking for good food and a reasonably priced menu look no further. The restaurant is really welcoming and for those who are whiskey collectors you're bound to think you're in heaven. The collection is superbly displayed and there's a great story behind the collection. The food was very good as was the service. Do try the beef espetada, the chicken skewer and the picado with chips. We had a great meal. We were there last year and we enjoyed the food thoroughly. Our second visit didn't disappoint. This is definitely a 'returner'
