125 years ago a building number thirteen appeared on Svobody av. It was a modern Hotel at the outset of its long and fascinating history. The building was one of the first in the town to get electric lighting, and the most respected Lviv elite artists, writers, and journalists; used to gather here. Earlier, an Austrian man of letters Leopold von Sacher-Masoch was born in this very building. The hotel BANKHOTEL ART CONGRESS HALL hospitably welcomed the guests and residents of the city on June 8, 2018. The hotel is located in Lviv in a reconstructed building of the former Austro-Hungarian bank in the historic part of the city. The branch of the Austro-Hungarian Bank was built during the period of the city’s rapid economic development, which took place from 1870 to 1914. Its designing was undertaken by two architects, graduates of the Lviv Polytechnic University, Edmund Zhikhovich and Michal Luzhetsky. Young architects worked together on the basis of the Zhykhovich design bureau. This bureau was famous for a large number of designed and later constructed buildings. Its main peculiarity is the use of secessional and modernist interpretations of various historical styles. In 2015 the Creative Architectural Workshop “Kudin” took up the design of the reconstruction and adaptation of historic bank building into a hotel.
