Lusk is a high-plains town in the eastern part of the state of Wyoming. The town is the seat of Niobrara County. The town was founded in July 1886, by Frank S. Lusk, a renowned Wyoming rancher, partner in the Western Live Stock Company, and stockholder in the Wyoming Central Railway. Cattle ranching remains the primary industry in the town of Lusk.

While walking downtown Lusk, WI...I asked a few locals for recommendations on where to have dinner. All suggested The Pizza Place.
The pizzas looked great...and huge! However, because I was by myself...I decided to get a hot sandwich. I can't remember the name of it...but it was a kind of BBQ/hot beef. It was very good. Although I thought prices were about 10% too much...I would definitely stop again if in this portion of the world.
One other negative...customers have to order/pay at a counter/window. As a customer, I find this inconvenient. Table service is preferred.

Rough n Refined is a coffee and tea shop serving awesome beverages hot or cold, a light breakfast, salad, and sandwiches. Our espresso is roasted in Rapid City, SD, our tea is loose leaf, and our sandwiches are made with high quality meats and ingredients.
And breakfast very good. I wasn;t expecting anything from this little town in the middle of nothing. We've stopped by just to grab a coffee or something and the place is very cozy, with high-quality breakfast. Way better than the big chain. Stop by if you are around here, you will not be disappointed.

We stopped for lunch on our way to Deadwood and after we ate we counted our blessings that we did.
The food is not five star, what it is tender, tasty with "stick to your ribs" goodness.
The servings are large, the service is prompt, warm and friendly and the atmosphere creates the family image that is perfect.
It is not pretentious, but, damn, it is good.
Make sure that you try The Vegetable Beef Soup, Absolute Heaven

I made an impromptu stop in Lusk, WY which turned into an overnighter. With lodging taken care of, I was looking forward to a nice good western steak dinner. What a total disappointment. The service was terribly slow and inefficient . . . and my t-bone steak (which was ordered medium) was more like medium well and tough. Very dry and after a few bits of the meat along the bone, the rest was simply not edible.
Because it had taken so long for my meal to come out, I had told my server that while the steak was overcooked, I would eat it. I didn't want to wait for another to be prepared. Unfortunately, as it turned out, there was no eating most of it.
When I asked to speak with a manager, I learned there was only the waitress and the "chef" . . . which is a generous term for "short order fry cook" I think.
Anyway, they agreed to only charge me half for my meal . . . after all I guess I did eat half. That was about as good as I felt I could expect from this place. I left vowing to make sure my innkeeper knew of the terrible experience. He did say it didn't surprise him as he rarely recommended this restaurant to guests. But because the couple in front of me checking in and I asked about steak . . . this was really the only option in town. Too bad. My neighbors in the motel said his recommendation for the pizza joint in town was spot on and EXCELLENT.

Bar and Grill serving great Burgers, Steaks, and more
The burgers are good, and the service is friendly. The decor is 1970's biker bar, built for survivability more than comfort. They have smoke-eaters, which work sort-of; if you're sensitive to that sort of thing, this might not be your favorite place.

We passed through Lusk on our way back from Mt. Rushmore to Colorado. You drive through many miles of nothing so we were happy to find a Subway. What can you say about it - it's a Subway. The food is what you'd expect. The people were friendly and the place is small but clean. The other choices we noticed in the immediate area were restaurants with bars/package stores, so we decided not to partake in the local ambiance.
Don't pass up Lusk if you are hungry. It's a long way to go to civilization in any direction.

This was a so bad its good type thing. This Is clearly a old drive in the building is in bad shape an painted poorly. But it was just what we were looking for the food was pretty good and inexpensive, I had a nacho and husband had a buffalo burger. We enjoyed it. The seating is picnic tables outside and everyone there was a tourist traveling we had a lot of great fun conversation. They rally need to cover the outside garbage cans as the flies were pretty thick. This is for sure not fine dining!
