Lower Saxony (Niedersachsen in German) in Germany's northwest is the country's second-largest state in terms of size and its fourth population-wise. Home to Hannover and several other larger cities, the area is treasured for its natural beauty, as well, with diverse terrain that includes coastline, flatlands, rolling hills and woodlands. Both the wildlife-filled Harz Mountains in the south and the East Frisian Islands off the northern coast are beloved by Germans and visitors alike.

I gave this five stars mainly based on the wellness centre - most impressive. At least 6 different saunas, 2 indoor pools as well as the usual massage facilities. All included (apart from massage etc) in the price of the room. The hotel is situated in the middle of the small town - pleasant to walk around and lots of longer walks available from the hotel into the Harz National park. The rooms are alright - looking their age a bit and could do with some refurbishment. A few fittings in the bathroom were poorly maintained. Quite hard mattress but nevertheless comfortable. The personel were efficient and fairly friendly. I woouldn't class this as a 5 star hotel, it lacked the feeling of 'exclusivity' that such hotels are keen to foster - it's the little things that were missing/strange, e.g. battery operated candles throughout the hotel! Perhaps having some nuts along with the drinks at the bar; no champagne available. Breakfast was good, some pleasant home made salads and cakes/biscuits were a nice touch.

Staff were very helpful and pleasant. Reasonable/not bad German breakfast Buffet, Breakfast room very hot! Evening meal was poor restaurant area not welcoming. Site is in need of a major update and clean. Mi-sold accommodation, booked a Cottage and got a hotel room?!?!? no proper bed for my 10yr old daughter. Could do with alignment of facilities with other Centre Parcs. Pool is a great feature but tired and in need of refurbishment. Little else around other than a small beach with a view of an oil refinery/distribution. Good for walking along the Dyke but Ostfriesland and Nordfriesland Inseln are far superior, no question!

Place is outside of town. In the forest so nothing around. However restaurant was just great. Fresh products, tasty food. Perhaps service could be better as they messed up management of our big table. But no drama. I would surely go back.

Braunlage, wonderfully relaxing resin "Listen to the refreshing splashing of the graceful Bodewasserfälle on hot summer days; They wind from the Bear Bridge to the Brocken Hill. On the way, picturesque cookies invite you to linger and picnic. " Wolfgang Klinkhammer, resort manager Brown Hiking and wellness in the home of the witches. In Brown, the mountains are more mystical, the valleys more convoluted and the forests more mysterious. The apartments are surrounded by greenery. The wellness area has four saunas and sparkling experience showers. The in-house restaurant Grimbarts ensures the culinary well-being. And new snow cannons guarantee a snow-proof winter season. Turn in Brown on Goethe's tracks. On the Brocken, the highest peak of the Harz Mountains, once Faust and Mephistopheles have listened to the Hexenchor. Here you can experience ancient legends and stories firsthand. Mystical customs such as the Walpurgis night are as deeply rooted here as the nature bond of the people.
Lovely hotel residence, it has all possible services and amenities you might hope for, from a swimming pool (not huge but decent) spa, a large house dedicated as a kids playground, a very large 3 floor underground garage (but without even a single 220v outlet, if you drive an electric car, have no hope even to slow charge in this venue), a very good restaurant where we had diner, with a very friendly staff, excellent breakfast, high quality you wouldn't expect in this village, with wide food choices. The apartment we booked was around 60 to 70sqm with 2 bedrooms, the 2nd on a mezzanine floor, small and a tat inconvenient, but with a separate toilet, a large living space and nice balcony on the main floor, and a master bedroom by the entry door. There was even a nespresso machine but you would have to come with your own capsules though. Kitchen is well dotted and has everything you need to cook. The main con of the flat / rooms, we're the beds, they had only twin beds in both bedrooms, and in the 2nd room there was even a night stand keeping both beds separated. Not a couple friendly venue, or a very old German style of having separate beds and separate sheets for couples. We paid 300 euros per night, for 4 people. A rather steep amount, though it included a very good breakfast but not the garage charge. Rooms were spotless clean. A very good venue if you want to stay in Braunlage, whether with a family or friends, but the local standards are not the same as in major touristic towns, this resort is probably the top range here
