Best known to most Germans as the locale of Georg-August University, Gottingen has about 130,000 residents, about a quarter of whom are students. Gänseliesel (Goose Girl) is the city's most famous resident, a 1901 fountain built in front of the 14th century Rathaus (Town Hall), which today houses the city's tourist office. But even Goose Girl can't escape the college students, who by tradition upon receiving their PhDs must climb and kiss her, making her "the most kissed girl in the world."

Richtig gut essen. Das kannst Du im amavi PURE. Frische Zutaten. Neue Kreationen. Altbekanntes neu interpretiert. Verfeinert mit einer Prise purer Liebe. amavi ist kein klassisches italienisches Restaurant sondern ein kleines bisschen mehr. Im amavi LIFE
This newly opened restaurant is located in a converted Railway Loading and Storage depot where GüterbahnhofstraÃe and Am Güterwerkehrzcentrum meet. It is easy to miss it, as it is set back in the yard in an unlikely building. It does have a spacious car park, but the entrance is up a metal staircase to the loading dock height from the car park.Inside the restaurant is clean and modern. There is a reasonable choice of Italian style food, mostly of high quality. There are pizzas on the menu, but the other dishes are better. There is also a good choice of wines and whisky. The staff are friendly and attentive.

A modern extension on the left side of the historic Deutsches Theatre includes the "DT Bistro" - an attractive and relaxed place to eat and drink. The food available ranges from a snack to a three course meal. I had a particularly good steak, but vegetarians are also well catered for. An obvious place to eat a pre-theatre supper, but also a good choice even if not attending a performance. We arrived for an early supper at about 18.00, but fairly soon the bistro got very busy before the performance in the Theatre. The apple strudel for dessert was also very good. I would be very happy to eat there again.

The Georgia Augusta-Stuben is the city's premier spot for gourmets. It is part of Romantik Hotel Gebhards.
This restaurant is everything you want if you are looking for a classic restaurant serving classic dishes along with competent service. The interior oozes history and class. The service is your classical French cuisine and competence. Other clients are most age ranges of romancing couples, business trips, groups of friends, a couple of solo diners but seemed to be diners looking for higher level fine dining. We had Kalbsfleischtartar, Consomme, Ochesenlende, Feines vom Hirsch, Crepe Suzette (order the suzette in advance as they take time and are not always available), several bottles of water, 3 glasses of champagne for 175 Euro (excluding the 54 Euro wine).A very memorable bottle of Cote de Beaune from 2005 which I must find the name of! Excellent wine list. Not always the case in Germany. Will definitely come back when I am Göttingen as I have not seen anything for miles that quite matches this level, not even Hanover.

We had a really enjoyable evening dining at the Z.A.K. with a large group of friends visiting from Switzerland.Pros: 1. Portions are large enough you'll have leftovers if you're inclined to take them, and staff are happy to wrap them for you.2. The food is hearty, filling, and tasty. I especially recommend "Die Piratenbraut. (Menu items are named after famous movies.)3. The restaurant is large, has lots of seating with outdoor seating in summer, and the interior is cozy and comfortable. 4. Prices are low. The average meal for dinner is between 10-15 euros. 5. Staff are friendly, efficient, and menus are available in English as well as German.6. We were allowed to bring in our small dog; she slept in the corner while we dined.7. We were seated immediately despite not having a reservation. Other restaurants in town have turned us away when we didn't have a reservation even when they had several tables clearly available.Cons:1. They were not able to accept our Visa or Mastercard and even rejected our local German bank card because their machine was down. We had just offered to pick up the tab for our entire large group of friends, so needless to say, it was rather embarrassing to have to back pedal because we didn't have that much cash. Make sure you have enough cash on hand for your meal!If it weren't for this last drawback, I'd give it 5 stars.

It is just on the left side by the road when you get from the highway to Gottingen's suburbia. Nice place with a spacious parking place, beautiful decoration insidae and a terrace / porch with heaters outside. Prices are quite reasonable, variety of food is excellent - anyone can find something for himself. Unfortunatelly they just ran out of BBQ ribs which are one of the best dishes they make, but salads were great as well as pizzas, curry chicken with wok vegetables and basmati rice, very nicely done. Highly recommended.
