I really cannot express how happy I am with this place. This place was booked by my father-in- law in celebration of his birthday. The hospitality we received was wonderful, with a tasty cocktail, and simple appetizer. The meal was wonderful and really worth the value. The staffs were really nice and friendly. They even surprise my little girl with a delicious ice cream. I would definitely recommend this place to friends, and should imagine we will be returning very soon :)

Herzlichen Dank!

Have walked past this particular establishment a number of times with the full intention to try it one day. It is very well situated in the Altstadt of Leer, directly next to the Rathaus, and superficially at least, it appears to be a well conceived specialist seafood restaurant.Well, I have now visited it, and yes, it is a specialist seafood restaurant. On my visit however (around 8.30pm on a Friday night), it was almost empty - and I think I know why.The meal I had "Kabeljaufilet mit Bratkartoffeln" (Cod filet with roasted potatoes) was preceded by what can only be described as a cabbage stalk off-cut salad in a store-bought 'French' dressing. It was unpleasant, chewy and had an odd after-flavour. The fish dish itself also had a few unpleasant surprises, most notably a beige sour tasting parsley sauce and burnt potatoes. I have to admit that the cold langustine that garnishes the plate (and is apparently served with all fish dishes) was somewhat unappealing to me as well - however this could be down to personal preference. The fish itself was of a hearty size, but the skin had only been crisped up in places, and in some of these had been rendered sloppy again by the unaccountable sauce. The establishment itself felt a little thrown together. It is of a fair size and could conceivably be of appeal to largish parties. The furniture is aged and feels a little worn out. Bizarrely, the menu seems to be sponsored on each page by local businesses, although it could conceivably be seen as a bit quirky, in reality it felt like they may be struggling a little.I personally do not feel the need to try any other dishes from the menu and as such shall favour other local businesses in the future. If you, having read this, are unsure what to think of it - visit it only if you have enough time on your trip to sample other restaurants, I think you will be disappointed.

Crime novel Cafe and wine Bar. Associated to bookstore. Many cultural events. Concerts, theatre, authors' readings. "murderous" menus, boat tours. Homemade soups, fish, pancakes, salad, cake. Nice Old Town situation with quiet terrace

We came for lunch to this restaurant which belongs to a library and book shop.An interesting concept but we did misunderstand the menu due to the fact that we thought food would be served quickly but it's the other way round: Your have to take your time which means waiting 30 mins or so is not unusual. At least it is mentioned upfront in the menu.Food was good and came in great portions. All service personnel was friendly and helpful.

This Teutonic snack bar (Imbiss) is more like a genuine el-cheapo restaurant with ample seating and even a clean restroom. The iconic Currywust with fries was very enjoyable although we didn't have pilsner.Service was friendly. The bill for two came to 10 EUR including mineral water.A must-visit after a tough workout as it will fill you up with empty calories. But very good empty calories nevertheless.

Over the years I've come here a lot to just have a coffee with a friend, lunch or dinner. The service has its up and downs, but it was never really bad considering that mostly students are working there. The food was usually good, some meals a bit over-priced though. The most spectacular thing is the location though. It's directly next to the harbour and in summer you can see many rowers and some boats going up and down. It's just outside the main shopping street, a 300m walk maybe. Wonderful on a nice summer day. It's not what it used to be a couple of years ago but it's still relatively solid, not outstanding but not really bad either, depends on the waiter/waitress you get. But usually people are nice if you're nice towards them. Have had lots of awesome cocktail nights here.

This is the restaurant of Hotel Hafenspeicher. It was a Tuesday and some of the restaurants that we wanted to go were closed – so we ended up in Pier 23. The service was very friendly. The food is German / partly cross-kitchen. We ate fish and it was good. What I found odd, was that the ‘catch of the day’ included several fish species which are surely not from the Nordsee – like Parrot fish. Anyway, we enjoyed our dinner – so would recommend this restaurant.

Restaurant zur Waage

We were traveling back from Sweden through Germany and stopped over for the night in Leer on the river Ems, near the border with the Netherlands. Last time we stopped in this historic old town there was a classic boating festival and we had snacked in the busy cobbled square near the old rat haus and overlooking the river where all the bustle of the festival was going on. This time there was a rowing festival over the weekend and skullers and eights were all over the riverbank just down river. We walked from our hotel overlooking the rowing activities and up to the Restaurant Waage. It was warm enough in early September to sit out at a candlelit table under a full moon.Absolutely 100% excellent service - friendly waitress gave us all the time we wanted and was happy to explain all. I had a "crab capuccino" with crab cake to start with. Never had it before - but the chef here had produced it beautifully - a superb crab bisque soup topped with foamy cream and accompanying crab cake and lime. Truly delicious. I thne had a silroin steak and rosemary potatoes and green beans. Perfect. My partner had the durade - on the bone - beautifully cooked - served with lovely chips and a well seasoned salad. They had tables inside the restaurant which looked very attractive - but were all booked out. So iof you're in town on a Saturday nighty - book ahead.

We visited Spiekeroog with friends from New York. They saw the story about Spiekeroog III on television. So we had to go and visit it. It was very difficult to get a reservation, but we managed. That in itself should speak for itself! The dishes we ordered were well prepared and presented. The great food and friendly service made for a great evening! We are happy that we managed to get a reservation while visiting Spiekeroog, otherwise we would have missed out on a great restaurant.
