Coming back from NOLA, we were still craving beer and seafood when we stumbled upon this hidden gem. It looks like an absolute hole in the wall, but rest assured, it is awesome. It's a restaurant AND seafood market AND they sell beer. Does it get better? Yes. The food is awesome. The fried seafood platter was amazing. Huge fresh oysters that were cooked perfectly, soft shell crab that was alive mere minutes earlier, fresh catfish, and huge succulent shrimp. The crawfish.... Was some of the best I've had. They were just spicy enough to leave a subtle burn. They were cooked perfectly, not boiled to the point of toughness. Take a chance on this place, you will not be disappointed. The staff was friendly and helpful. Food is great, beer is cold, seafood is fresh.

We always stop here to buy fresh seafood to bring back to Missouri. They have very good shrimp and smoked sausage. We bought some already boiled to take out to the gator farm to have for lunch and that was so great shrimp! They are always very nice to their customers! Will for sure be going back the next time we are down there.
I'm a local in town and Chookies has been around here for years. It is one of my favorite places to go when I'm craving some comfort seafood. The raw oysters are always good. My personal favorite dish is the seafood potato. Its smothered in a melted creamy cheese sauce topped with Crawfish tails and shrimp, sour cream and chives. I get mine without the chives but if your a seafood and cheese lover I highly recommend this dish!

I got a roast beef poboy to go. It was very good, but very expensive. Over $9.00 for a half poboy. I felt that was overpriced conpaired to other places. The drive through was very convient. I usually get gumbo here and it is the best in town.

Our group of friends stopped at Murphy's for lunch. Great Menu! I ordered Catfish Daniele which was fried catfish with crawfish etoufee poured on top and a baked potato. What I received was grilled catfish with the etoufee. That was okay because it was delicious. Others ordered the shrimp gumbo which had a spice which could not be determined and that gave it a strange taste. So we would rate that as fair. Several others ordered the fried catfish platter. Plenty of catfish which they all claimed to be terrific. Service was great but the one big negative was that it was extremely noisy. We could hardly hear ourselves talk across the table. All in all I would go back because the food was great.

I got the house salad with the grilled shrimp and wasabi ranch. The shrimp were a bit smaller than expected but still good. Overall, I love the ambience of this place. Itâs a great venue to grab a beer and watch the game. Loved the style of the place. Great bar grub.

We love to have lunch here, especially a hot bowl of gumbo on winter days.Everything here is delicious. Even their potato salad is exceptional, and I'm picky about my tater salad. They have lunch specials, and portions are generous. You know it's good when you see the packed parking lot, but service is quick and friendly. Right off the interstate, this is a great spot for travelers to enjoy an awesome meal.

Stopped in Hammond for the night while heading home from New Orleans. We'd asked a couple of people in Hammond for recommendations for seafood. One of them was Don's. It was convenient to our motel, so after reading reviews (4 stars) we tried it. We were seated near the bar, where it was very loud - we should have asked for a window seat. We had a very good server. She checked on us frequently and brought additional condiments as requested. The food was fairly good - just wasn't 'great' I had the fried catfish/shrimp. The shrimp were fried well and once I added some seafood seasoning (on the table) it was pretty good. I didn't eat the catfish after a couple of bites - it tasted 'fishy' - not that clean taste typical of 'farm raised' catfish. Even though we weren't going home until the next afternoon, I got a to go box and brought the catfish and fries home - my dogs loved it! If you go to Don's with someone and you want conversation, ask for a table away from the bar area.
