Monroe (historically French: Poste-du-Ouachita) is the eighth-largest city in the U.S. state of Louisiana. It is the parish seat of Ouachita Parish. In the official 2010 census, Monroe had a population of 48,815. The municipal population declined by 8.1 percent over the past decade; it was 53,107 in the 2000 census. After a recheck in 2012, the Census Bureau changed the 2010 population from 48,815 to 49,147. Mayor Jamie Mayo, however, maintains that the Monroe population is more than 50,000 and indicated that he will pursue a continued challenge to the count.

After a good recommendation from a friend, my husband and I decided to try Bayou Grill since it is very convenient to our home. We went about 5 pm. on a weekday afternoon. I had the Bayou Burger and my husband had the Roast Beef Po-boy. Both were absolutely delicious!! My burger had a very nice freshly made pattie, not one of those pre-fab patties! The french fries were real potatoes, not the frozen crinkles, plus they were plentiful. I certainly hope this restaurant makes a go of it as several businesses in that location have gone by the way side. We will definitely be back to try other menu items!

According to the t-shirts that their employees wear, Taco Bandido has been around for 40 years. I certainly can remember eating there as a child. It was one of my favorite places to eat in Monroe. On a recent trip to Monroe, I took my family to eat there. They loved it just as much as I did as a child. It may be fast food, but it really tastes great. Their prices are very reasonable too. I wish that they had Taco Bandido's throughout Louisiana!
Since 1950, Whataburger has proudly served a bigger, better burger. It all started when a young entrepreneur named Harmon Dobson had a bold idea: to serve a burger so big that it took two hands to hold, and so good that after a single bite customers could
I stopped in Whataburger on Louisville Avenue for lunch. I had the double meat Whataburger with french fries and a coke. The hamburger is really good. I especially like the bun and the chopped onions. Whataburger is another restaurant in Monroe that offers a different style of a good hamburger.

Had seen Sam's many time from I-20 but it never seemed to be meal time. This trip we stopped for lunch. The food portions were large and the price reasonable. The wife had a shrimp plate which included very good shrimp rolls and huge fried shrimp. I had an oyster plate. Now I love fried oyster, but there just something about the flavor of these that I did not like. Could not finish mine.

Coney Island is located across from the "Old" West Monroe City Hall & Jail. Just a simple white building that has a sign that simply reads Coney Island. The building is not much bigger than a bus and the tables are small. However once you order your hotdog or Chili dog made just the way you want it, nothing else matters. Pick out your little bag of chips a da drink and get after it. You will be back!
