I have been meaning to try this restaurant for some time. Last Saturday I stopped by as they opened to check it out. The dining room is nicely appointed with ceiling fans and windows overlooking the greenery near the river. I ordered the Catfish Lafayetta - stupendous. My wife would not stop talking about how good it was all afternoon. I also order a Catfish Poboy and a Shrimp Poboy. My expectations were low since we have some really good Poboy restaurants in Covington. I should have raised them - they were terrific. Overflowing with their contents and nicely dressed on fresh bread. All three of these dishes are moving this restaurant up my list of great places to eat in our fine city.

Recently visited The Half Shell with a family member. We ordered a dozen raw oysters and the crab cake appetizer. The oysters were extremely small and dry. The crab cakes were small, pan fried and had a below average flavor. We ordered bisque and half fried oysters and fried shrimp. The bisque was excellent, shrimp were good, oysters were way over cooked. Drinks were good, along with the service. Very nice atmosphere. I will not return due to the food quality. Very expensive for what we received. For the prices, quality should have been much better. Dear tmitchell38305,We are so sorry to hear about your experience at the Covington location. We didn't live up to the high standards that we are known for. We have contacted the location about your experience and we will be in the restaurant to look at the problem. This is the usual Lake Pontchartrain area maritime restaurant. The food is good. The owners do go to a lot of trouble to get decent bands on weekend nights. The place is a bit small. With more than half of the dining tables outside. The atmosphere is ok if you're drinking. If not, or if you have children, this is probably not the place for you. The majority of the clientele is intoxicated.

We visited Waterstreet on a Wednesday night for supper. We sat outside on the porch and enjoyed the beautiful and peaceful surroundings. Katie, our waitress, was attentive and delightful. We had the snapper which was seasoned and cooked perfectly. The sauce, loaded with crabmeat, was a special treat!!!

Our tour group planned a lunch at Morton Seafood. Despite our large group of thirty-six people and the local regulars for lunch, the waitstaff did an outstanding job. Our waiter, Matthew, was very accommodating, pleasant, courteous, and ensured we were not wanting for anything during the meal. The kitchen did a great job, as well. Now the food - can't say enough about the amount given for each and every plate ordered. You could make two/three meals with all the food provided. Taste - terrific. I ordered a dish consisting of fried shrimp, catfish, and oysters with a loaded bake potato and a side salad. My wife had a cup of seafood gumbo and a roast beef po-boy. Others in the group ordered various dishes of fried seafood. Not one complaint from anyone. Everyone was totally pleased. Even with our large group, they handled the individual checks with ease. Forgot to mention the restaurant sits directly across the street from the river providing a great relaxing view.

Deserves to be mentioned with the icons of New Orleans family restaurants. Great job of local favorites with everything fried to perfection. Fair prices with a fun atmosphere. Not fancy but not plain either.Friendly and efficient service. We go several times a year there.
