Zz's Kitchen is lunch window directly on busy LA Hwy 14. Although it does have a large sign advertising the daily specials, it's impossible to read, because of all of the fluttering OPEN flags around it. As it was a Friday in Cajun Country, we opted for their seafood gumbo. A normal portion came in a styrofoam cup along with potato salad (a staple with gumbo in these parts) rice, and a slice of bread. About the best I can say for it was ....UGH!!! It was 90% dark brown water with crab claw fragments along with the claws, as few shrimp, and mystery meat. This was NOT quality gumbo, and certain was not worth the $28 tab for two portions. This is the second disappointment from this lunch window. Best advise?? Keep driving!!
Around the area, drive-thru boiled crawfish establishments have popped up, and one of those is D&T Crawfish. We enjoyed some hot crawfish spiced medium, and they were large. So what, some may ask? Well, these were the same size or larger than Richard's, a well known purveyor of boiled seafood in the area, at half the price. Many of the crawfish were as large as the ones at the touted "Cajun Claws", but at one-third the price. At Cajun Claws, you are required to wait 45 minutes to an hour for a table in a very cramped bar. When you finally get seated, it's not uncommon for those that have been drinking heavily waiting for a table to start acting out. This has happened on three separate occasions. During our last visit to Cajun Claws, a drunk was yelling profanities, and invited a man, seated with his wife and children, to go outside to fight with him outside. The moral of the story? Save money and the hassle of the restaurants, and get your crawfish to go. Skip the restaurants.
This place may as well have had mud floors. The entire place reeked of filth and dirt. Never mind the hand scribbled menu over the kitchen, food on the floors, or general ramshackle appearance of the establishment, or the rust grime and corrosion all over the salt shakers and napkin holders, everything about the place just seems wrong. The hamburger steaks we ordered were about normal except for the bath of thin corn starch in which it was swimming. The potatoes were from a box, and of low quality. The fried rice was anything but. The heath department must be totally unaware of the existence of this place, otherwise it would have closed it. One review of this place on a FB page indicated that a customer had found a roach in the food. Not surprising.
Crawfish is cooked to perfection every time. It is the only place I buy boiled crawfish. I have eaten crawfish at other places and none beat the taste of the Stelly's Boiling Spot! During crawfish season, I get crawfish nearly every week. The Spot has never let me down from their first season to present. Can't wait for next season!

We drive here from Baton Rouge every chance we get. The crawfish are incomparable and are well worth the travel, wait and $. Fried and boiled Shrimp are great too. We also enjoy pre gaming in the bar. Get here early if you want the first seating!

We're from Abilene, Texas and we were on vacation. We wanted to take our friends from Kaplan to supper before we had to go home and I wanted a good old fashioned Louisiana style boiled seafood supper. I was not disappointed!!! The food on the buffet looked so awesome that we ditched the original plan and had the buffet. It was excellent and we had a wonderful time! Loved the boiled shrimp and seafood gumbo most of all. We really enjoyed our server too... she was a sweetheart. (I want to say that her name is Danni; she even walked out with us and visited for a few seconds in the parking lot...who does that??!! â¥) Really good food and a no-frills, comfortable family style atmosphere. Next time we're in town, I will want to go again. Thank y'all for the warm Louisiana hospitality!!

We were expecting better especially for the area. The fried fish was bland... no spice, but lots of flour to make the breading stick. The stuffed fish was good, but the presentation lacked. It was a piece of fish on a plate. The atmosphere was nice and casual. The service was average.. we had to ask for drink refills and sauces. We were also blessed with the flying pests from the great scenery on the nearby river.

Well this is the restaurant we chose to visit twice on our recent trip to Abbeville. We dine early so both visits were in the large bar area as the main restaurant is closed until 5pm. What a wonderful experience. The waitresses were so sweet. The food was amazing. On our first visit we tried the Alligator Bites as an appetizer. They were SO tender and the dipping sauce was wonderful. My husband asked for a recommendation on how to order the oysters as there were three ways. Fried was the heads up and they were wonderful. I chose just appetizers because we share. I ordered the seafood gumbo and to me the roux was a little overdone but Iâm spoiled, my hubby is an excellent cook. I also ordered the Oysters DeVille and they were amazing on the half shell. Some were small, some were big but every one was deliciously succulent. On our return visit I had a combo plate of fried shrimp and stuffed crab. The shrimp were awesome and the stuffed crab took me right back to my childhood. I had a side of potato salad that iâm Pretty sure had so 3 bacon grease in there...yum! Husband opted for oysters again and onion rings which maybe we should have just sat down and ordered those! Fair price in drinks and excellent service. One little cute waitress said âcome back again,Iâm here âtil 3pmâ...it was after 4pm and she was still working.
