When touring St. Francisville you must stop in for either breakfast or lunch. It is not too far from downtown St. Francisville and well worth your time. The wait staff are the most friendly people you will ever meet. I miss it already.
The new owners did wonders for âThe Innâ. The parlor and dining areas are fabulously decorated in a eclectic shabby chic/antique blend. The new front landscaping and pool courtyard are both first class with significant attention to detail. The plans for the new bar look like it will be equally impressive. The two owners we super accommodating, engaging and openly sharing of their new plans. For lunch our entire family ordered the Plantation Breakfast of Scrambled Egg, flavorful cheese grits, homemade biscuits cooked on an waffle iron, thick cut bacon & hickory sausage. We all thoroughly enjoyed the meal, coffee, tea and mimosas! Very happy to have a wonderful ânewâ spot to enjoy.
Bueche's has been on the False River through various owners for a l-o-n-g time. The newest owners have been operating this place for less than 10 years: however, they are contributing to the legend of Louisiana roadhouses and dive bars very successfully (imo). The place is little more than a wooden shack on the side of the road on the island side of the False River. There used to be a movable marquee sign that advertised food specials and was lit up at night--but one of the numerous storms gusted it away--so, you have to know where Bueche's is located or you'll drive right past it.Inside it's dark except over the pool tables..... there's some old Louisiana memorabilia adorning the walls and a female mannequin behind the bar--and that's about it for décor. Oh yeah--there IS a great view of the False River through the back windows--so who needs fancy wall hangings?!Staff are earnest but not fancy either. They will try to accommodate every one; but it's False River and no one is in a hurry--if you are rushed for time, probably better to drive on to New Roads where there are some fast food places.I have always found the folks at Bueche's to be very friendly and helpful: maybe not always the most attentive--especially not when the place is crowded and a lot of people are shouting at them. I try to time my visits before or after the predictable rushes. Food is very good--the ladies cooking do their best to provide the tastiest meals this side of the river: hamburgers are flavorful and juicy; steaks are sizzling hot and cooked to order; and their 'almost world famous charbroiled oysters' are the most succulent, meatiest mollusks I have ever been privileged to eat. The rib eye salad is very, very good, too: however, be prepared. There are NO small portions! Did I mention on Saturdays (and sometimes other nights) they feature a live band? Good food; good company; good place. Bueche's is the island's go-to.

We stopped here after a vsist to Rosedown on a Sunday afternoon. As restaurants in this area on a Sunday can be hard to find, we were happy to find it so close to the plantation. Service was fast and friendly. Outside service under the oak tree is available but no recommended in August. Our gluten free diner with dairy allergies was able to find dishes to suit them.

I took my daughters, (15 & 11) and a friend on a small weekend getaway to St. Francisville, to visit the plantations in the area. This cafe was so cute! The staff was very nice, the food was delicious. My daughter ordered the magnolia salad with grilled shrimp and it was HUGE! The spicy shrimp poboy was amazing! They even had pizza for my picky youngster. It was a bit pricey, but I did have a souvenir shirt added to the food portion of the bill.
We drove into New Roads and decided to stop for a bite to eat. We were fairly famished after being lost on the backroads of Louisiana. LOLWanted to try some local fare and not sure what drew us to this place because it is actually more of a meat/seafood market, but sure happy that we decided to stop.Definitely five stars for the sweetest hometown welcome. They even brought us some crawfish to try and showed us the easy way to shell them.It was late in the day, so they were out of fried seafood boudin balls, so I tried the long seafood boudin link and fries. Husband had the regular boudin link (looks like a long sausage) and fries. All of it was SO good.New Roads is one of the cutest towns in Louisiana too.
I really like the subs at Subway. There is such a big variety to choose from. The cookies are delicious too. It's also close to my home so it's very convenient.

Heard great things about Ma Mamas, was so excited to eat there. Atmosphere was very cute upon entering with our small family. Waitress was rude. Never refilled our waters or asked us about more drinks. All the food came out at once, apps, salad, every thing. My soup was super cold. The oysters Rockefeller was caked in spinach, couldnât find the oysters. Food was subpar. Very disappointing experience.
