Louisiana Hostels hotel | Places to Stay in Louisiana

April 18, 2023 Jasper Kershner

Louisiana tourism is centered on New Orleans and the North Shore region in the southeastern corner of the state near the Florida border. West of New Orleans is the Great River Road, with the I-10 running to the Mississippi River port capital city of Baton Rogue. West of New Orleans along the Gulf of Mexico, the I-10 cuts through Lafayette and Lake Charles on its way past Abbeville to Texas. Central Louisiana is Lake Country, and home to cities like Alexandria and Natchitoches. In northern Louisiana, the I-20 runs west from Monroe to Bossier City, Shreveport, and East Texas. Unless Louisiana is very familiar and frequent territory, New Orleans will be the top choice for a Louisiana vacation. Though Mardi Gras, music, and the winning ways of the New Orleans Saints football team get the spotlight, there is much more to explore in New Orleans. Within New Orleans choose among Bourbon Street, Royal Street, the Upper and Lower French Quarters, the Warehouse and Central Business District, the Garden District and Uptown, and Mid-City. With street car lines linking the French Quarter to the Garden District, Convention Center, and everywhere else, it is easy for the whole family to get around. If long walks are your exercise, explore the scenic city on foot. An easy two-hour drive from New Orleans brings you to Baton Rogue, Natchitoches and Lake Country. Explore old Beauregard Town in downtown Baton Rogue, the historic homes of the Baton Rogue Garden District, and tour one or several working plantations. Walk the 33-block Historic Landmark District and tour the historic homes and churches of Natchitoches. Relive Spanish Empire history in Louisiana at Fort St. Jean Baptiste State Historic Site. Heading west from New Orleans is Cajun Country and Lafayette with its mix of French, French Canadian (Acadian), Spanish, and Caribbean cultures. Besides Cajun and Creole cookery, explore the Civil War heritage at the Lafayette Museum. Stop by Abbeville to view the courthouse designed by Hayes Town, St. Mary Magdalen Church, and have a seafood meal. With 75 annual festivals Lake Charles is Louisiana's Festival City, and home to the Creole Nature Trail Scenic Byway. Shreveport and Bossier City in northwest Louisiana are casino and entertainment centers. Shreveport is renowned for hosting the Louisiana State Fair in the fall. Plus floral centers, art galleries, and museums. Monroe in the northeast also has notable gardens.

Great hostel with brilliant staff

Reviewed By Ash_vp27

First time in New Orleans backpacking with a friend. We are very happy we picked Quisby! The hostel has a great atmosphere to it, the staff are brilliant & helpful. They hold activities like movie night, painting, live music on various nights, which are good for meeting people and sharing stories. They have a happy hour everyday and provide complimentary breakfast. It is well located - around 20mins from the French quarter and the WW2 museum only a short walk away. We booked a private twin room with ensuite, which as expected was bunk beds - big enough for 2 people with a small wet room. I would happily recommend The Quisby to fellow travellers - it has a fantastic energy to it!

Vibrant vibes in a awesome city

Going to New Orleans and India House Hostel, was one of the best decisions we ever took through our trip in US, Mexico and Costa Rica. New Orleans is an amazing city and the vibe continues throughout India House Hostel. AJ and the rest of the staff is a lot of fun and very very helpful. This is not our last time we visit New Orleans and for sure not the last time we visit India House Hostel, hungry for more of that sweeet vibe.

Save your self from this place, the locks don't work!! NO SECURITY!! I was locked out of my room and they had to take the door off the hinges to get my stuff out, then they told me it was a "fire hazard and made me leave at midnight! NO REFUND! NO PLACE TO STAY!!! They couldn't care less that I had no place to go! A single women traveling cross country alone. I had to drive to St Charles at 1 am and pay $400 to a Casino hotel on a holiday weekend. This place is ghetto and everyone is cracked out on drugs. Drig deals in the parking lot across the street, NO SECURITY. The Owner blamed it on me that the locks are defective and the bartender said all the locks dont work. This place is full of low lifes, including the owner.

Weird

The female staff are unfriendly and strange and don’t really interact with guests. There was one nice staff member a young guy called Isaac but the rest of them are pretty creepy tbh. The building itself is in a good location near all amenities but it has no windows and is reminiscent of a jail cell. Also this is the only hostel I’ve stayed at with no social events and encouraged interaction from the staff .

Close to transit to take you to French Quarter, and attracts other great people. We met a few friends and took a ride down to check out the Halloween parade. Our room was clean, spacious, and private. We did see the shared rooms and they looked pretty cool too! The staff were friendly and informative. Plus, waffles in the morning.. can't really beat that! About 10 minute walk from the nearest Walmart for food and beer, and the neighbourhood you walk through is really cool (houses are amazing and colourful)! Will definitely stop out here again!

Modern hotel close to the action

Reviewed By delboy186338

We stayed for jazz week and was not disappointed, the hotel is smart, friendly staff and a clean hotel. It’s very close to the action but far enough away not to be noisy. I liked the modern style of the hotel, but the restaurant was closed and this is a big gap to our stay. No coffee making facilities in the room meant we had to go out for one. Going out this hotel is nicely located for the French quarter, trams and entertainment

Madame Isabelle's House In New Orleans

Built in 1831, Madame Isabelle’s family moved onto the property at the turn of the century, in 1900. Her family expanded and decorated the house before Madame’s father bequeathed it to her. Madame Isabelle and her husband continued to renovate the house until they left the city in 2002. The house is tastefully ornamented and furnished, staying faithful to the architectural characteristics typical of old New Orleans houses in this area. As we are proud of every single detail that makes this house special, we encourage you to enjoy every part of it as well and to feel at home for the duration of your stay. Once you venture out the house, a vibrant neighborhood welcomes you. Delicious restaurants and local bars share the streets with Creole cottages and shotgun houses. Though set in a quiet area, thriving nightlife is easily accessible from Madame Isabelle’s House: Frenchmen Street is only five minutes away by foot, Bourbon Street is within ten minutes walking distance, and Canal Street, which connects you to Mid-City and Uptown, fifteen minutes away by foot. If you would like to explore more than the downtown area without heading all the way to Canal Street, there is a bus stop conveniently located at the corner of the street that can transport you to any of the city’s many renowned tourist destinations. Dormitory rooms as well as private rooms are available. There are two, three, and four person private rooms in the house. Almost all of our private rooms are equipped with a cable TV, a refrigerator, and a private bathroom. All beds are equipped with new, 8-inch mattresses and brand-new linens; however, you may not want to stay in your room long because the hidden courtyard garden awaits you, replete with an outdoor deck and a Jacuzzi hot tub.
