Think of this region as the Southern Hemisphere's Switzerland, where snow-capped peaks, dozens of deep mountain lakes and emerald valleys create a fairy-tale landscape. Stretching from the Bio Bio River to the northern edge of Patagonia, it's home to picturesque German-influenced villages like Frutillar, Puerto Octay and Puerto Varas, plus wildlife-rich Vicente Perez Rosales National Park. The culture and handicrafts of the native Mapuche Indians are found in the northern areas around Temuco.

We stayed two nights here. It was really good to experience staying in a traditional Chiloé building on stilts over the water with a view. The apartments are reasonably spacious, but might be cramped for more than 2 people. The bed was really comfy although the linen unironed. Lots of towels provided. The WiFi was a little erratic. There are a few restaurants and cafes in the same row of palafitos or you can walk up the hill into town. There is a kitchenette and plenty of cooking supplies. The kitchenette was not sparklingly clean but overall the apartment was in good shape and we loved the stay.

I was charged almost double the published rate for a 5 night stay and was refused a refund when I requested it. Upon check in, I paid a flat amount and was not given an itemized bill or receipt. When I researched the published rate, I discovered the discrepancy in what I paid. The owner said the additional charge was for breakfast and cleaning, which was not included in the standard rate. I explained I was not given the option to decline those services. Also, I was charged the 19% tax that does not apply to me, as I am traveling on a tourist visa. The owner refused to refund this tax or make any other compensation for the amount she overcharged me. In fact, she was very rude and defensive. On top of this, we were given the worst room on the property, with only a very narrow terrace that did not even have room for a chair. Also note, the noise of barking dogs is constant, day and night.

On the positive side you have its downtown location and the good attitude of the desk lady, on the down side... the room, sheets and cobers were old and kind of not quiete clean, the rooms seem renovated or new, but its not well finished and we could not sleep till 2 am since in the second floor people use the toilet and every discharged sounded like someone was trowing a bucket of water in our faces. We stayed one night and went somewhere else.

Arrived in Puerto Varas and tried following google maps to get to the location. Wrong thing to do. Due to the one way streets, best thing to do, is get to the waters edge and go all the way to the west on Santa Rosa. Means driving the lakeside drive, then into the gravel road,/public beach parking area and up a bit of a gravel slope. This place is awesome! Beautiful views of the lake, the unit we were in is a studio, but very well appointed and laid out; great for a couple. Very clean as well! Great kitchenette - and also has barbecues outside - need to bring your own briquettes and lighter! Wifi was excellent - best in Chile so far! Bed very comfy, lots of hot water. Really appreciated the kettle, microwave and two burner stove. We were met by Claudia, who speaks excellent English and has travelled the world. She was very helpful in terms of directing us to the "must sees" of town and restaurants. Very handy to downtown - 15 - 20 minute walk for us to restaurants, grocery stores and the malacon. They have Netflix though we didn't watch TV at all so cannot vouch for it. Just know that it was clean, safe, comfortable and very considerate of our needs. For instance, I am celiac, and I asked for gluten free restaurants that really know the meaning of GF. She recommended one that was incredbly delicious. Best advice I can give: in a heartbeat we would return to this location. Perfect for us and for anyone wanting a view, cooking facilities and a quiet environment. I highly recommend.

OK, so I should have read the fine print VERY CAREFULLY.. which says.. "WiFI does not work in all cabins." Look owners, its 2019.. a $100 signal repeater fixes that! ^$^%@% This part of Chile has great internet.. so no excuse there. It is sprawling property, very rustic. And I must admit the view from all cabin windows was spectacular. There was a dining hall room a short walk away that had signal, but what a hassle. Buy a repeater. Oh, and someone else's cut fingernail was on the nightstand. Ick. Not sure the outdoor hot tub was working either. Staff was nice though!

Palafito Loft , is a building of 550 m2 wood on wooden stilts in the inland sea of Castro. Located in the charming neighborhood of Pedro Montt. This building consists of 7 independent fully furnished apartments , so it does not have 24 hrs reception . Our hours are from 10:00 hrs to 15:00 hrs. Rates do not include daily cleaning or breakfast.
Our room had a lovely view of the water, was updated and clean. Furnished kitchen. The deck was large and inviting. However, the gym club 2 doors down played loud music till late Friday night and through Sat afternoon, which really affected our enjoyment of the deck, ie, we sat in the living room and closed the door. There was no coffee maker nor coffee available in the mornings nor coffee shops open even by 9:30 in the morning. So no coffee on the deck in the morning when the gym was quiet. I suppose you could buy instant and boil water. The bedroom has no windows or fan, so is quite stuffy and warm.

Small apartment with bunk beds in a small seperate room and double bed in the living room/kitchen. Can get hot during hot days. Apartment is clean and comfortable, nicely decorated with secure parking space. Short drive from the town center, but you can walk to the lakeshore. Apartments are located in a residential area that doesn't look great, and while we stayed we saw a lot of police, one time they seemed to be chasing a robber? We never had any problems though (didn't go out in the dark) and didn't feel unsafe, but you might want to stay alert while walking around in the area. And don't miss bakery La Gringa just down the road.

Departamentos Turisticos
We stayed at this place for a couple of days. It was a pleasant surprise for many reasons: first of all, all the cabañas were so spacious, the place is really clean and friendly. Definitely it was a great solution and accomodation in Ancud. We will be back in the coming future for sure!
