Find out what Latin restaurants to try in Iquitos. Make the port town of Iquitos your base camp for exploring the Peruvian Amazon basin. The river and rainforest are the main attractions, of course, and once in Iquitos it's easy to book a stay at one of numerous nearby jungle lodges. Closer to town, travelers recommend visiting the market and "floating village" of Belen, seeing colorful creatures at the butterfly farm and animal rescue center, and taking a cruise on the great river.
Things to do in Iquitos

I'm an American who has been living in Iquitos for four months. I'm not crazy about the food options here. I don't have a huge budget and so have explored every cheap option in town, as well splurging occasionally at the various westernized joints near the plaza (the two pizza places, Karma Cafe, Yellow Rose, Dawn on The Amazon). The food at the tourist places is decent but has little personality - although I can't deny the scrumptiousness of the wood-oven pizza, but can't afford it often. I am happy to report to have found an amazing new-ish restaurant that, in my humble opinion, has the best food in town, and cheap too! It's called Taquito Feroz at Moore 128 (at Napo/Putumayo). This is only five blocks from the Plaza (near the University), but off the tiny tourist loop enough that most gringos miss it. They serve MEXICAN FOOD (and vegetarian food), and it's some of the best I've ever sampled. You can get a large meat, chicken, or vegetarian burrito for under 10 soles ($4), and it's served generously with five separate dishes (!!!) of unique salsas, unidentifiable but undeniably delicious sauces, and guacamole, which, all piled on, make for a most tasty full-meal burrito. Their fruit juices (with treated water) are served in huge glasses - very large portions for only 3 soles (a bit over a buck). They also serve tacos, enchiladas, quesadillas, hamburgers, and sandwiches. The place is run by a very cool, friendly, young, artistic Peruvian couple who just had their first baby. They obviously are passionate about the food, have done their homework, and know what tastes good. I've traveled much around Peru, Columbia, and Ecuador and found it actually quite difficult to find any real Mexican food. Sometimes you can get a "taco" or "burrito" by definition, but it has none of the charm or distinction of real Mexican food. Taquito Feroz is small, quaint, clean, and features glass tables which seal in a view of various art objects underneath the glass. There are some old records (LPs) hanging on the wall, plus a flat screen TV on the wall (but, unlike many food places here, it is usually set to silent). I've never written a restaurant review online before, but every time I eat there (at least twice a week), I think, "I need to spread the word about this place". Also, I should add, they even deliver!

Chose this spot out of convenience and based on location. Service was pretty average and food was decent. Nothing crazy spectacular but a good option. Also has tables with A/C inside which is nice for when you're still adjusting to the Iquitos humidity.
We offer a creative and dynamic kitchen and cocktail bar that is constantly evolving, inspired by the great pantry of our Amazon.
This is an excellent restaurant. It offers a fusion of local Amazon foods and international dishes. It is truly a hidden gourmet delight.

La Mishquina offers a set price lunch menu including a starter, main course, dessert, and a jungle fruit juice beverage (refresco). Prices are good and normal for a better quality menu of about s/12 soles (aprx US$4.50) and that includes the 2 courses, dessert and beverage!I have tried several different selections as I have returned many times. One of the best restaurants in Iquitos for lunch. Every selection was delicious, large portions and nice presentation. The service is some of the best in the Amazon with attentive waiters.Highly recommended and maybe you will see me there at another lunch!

Another in the list of 8 or 10 restaurants within a couple of blocks, all of whom are decent but not great. They have some interesting local dishes - my wife enjoyed her alligator steak. Friendly, as are the rest, and comfortable, but not particularly memorable.

Very big, clean, nicely decorated place. I was skeptical at first as it seem a bit touristy but the place does get packed, always a good sign. Food is very good and the staff is very attentive. Always eager to explain dishes and make suggestions. Go early as it does get loud with the musical performance.

This restaurant was recommended by our landlady as a place for traditional local food. The place was buzzing with a largely local clientele and is very much a neighbourhood restaurant which was great but meant that the environment was a little basic and Spartan. There was a good selection of food at affordable prices and we took a pork and a chicken dish which were both really well-presented and tasty. All round good experience.

Breakfast & lunch, homemade food and vegetarian food
This is a very good restaurant with excellent daily menu option. The food was really good, the staff was nice, however English wasnât the strong side of them. The daily menu is cheap, 16 Soles for starter, main dish and drink, the quality was really good. Itâs a pity, they are closed for dinner.

From the walk to the dock to the delicious food and drinks, every aspect of our experience was fabulous. You take a boat over to the restaurant, where you are greeted by friendly and attentive staff. The ceviche and fish dishes we had were top notch. The view and atmosphere was amazing. I would highly recommend, it is worth every penny even if it is more expensive than other restaurants in the area. One thing to note, the entrance to the dock is not very obvious, although they have someone manning the door and asking if youâd like to dine there.
