Portbyhan Hotel

The Portbyhan Hotel is situated in an unrivalled position right in the heart of Looe, allowing guests to relish the panoramic views of the vibrant harbour with only a short stroll into Looe town. The Edwards family, who operate an award-winning holiday company in South Wales, purchased the hotel in June 2013 and have since invested over £2.1 Million in a full-refurbishment of the exterior, bedrooms, restaurant, bar and public areas. These renovations, the location and the excellent services that the hotel offers have all contributed to the Portbyhan Hotel recently winning “Best Individual Hotel” at the prestigious National Coach Tourism Awards. Our public areas are also open to non-residents therefore if you are passing and wish to meet the team, sample our locally sourced cuisine or simply relax and enjoy a cold beverage on our roof top garden, please feel free, we would love to see you!

Very confined space for a double room and the shower room even worse. I requested a bath but there are only 2 in the whole hotel one in a family room and the other in a luxury suite, There was very little space to put stuff in the shower room (2 tiny glass shelves, one over the toilet). The shower was not fit for purpose, You could not bend down in it without banging your head and it was that tight that the grab rail was put on the wall outside the shower (what use is that?) We asked for a quiet room and had noise on and off all night from either flushing toilets, running water, mechanical noises and something similar to a ship's horn. There was also a light on in the room all night (exit light?). The room was planned so that the dressing table had no light and was in the darkest corner. There was one chair for a double room and no table but there was no room for either, Evening dinner was school meal style with peos as the veg for every meal. I did not expect sausage and mash, cottage pie etc for restaurant hotel food. After 3 days I was offered another room at the back of the hotel next to the kitchen fans which we declined, Our room was also overlooked by several houses where people sat in their gardens and could look straight into our room. Hope they enjoyed the view! The positives were that there was always hot water so when you had to leave the shower door open and sit in the tray with your feet hanging out you did have hot water. The hotel was very clean and in good order. There is no car park. They did deliver on the early moring call.

Polean Farm Cottages

Pretty landscape, disappointing overall

Reviewed By Dreamer821325

I feel bad, but this is an honest review. We arrived to some confusion about which cottage we had booked, and very kindly they ended up offering us the farmhouse instead of twinkles as it wasn’t suitable for us. That part was great. But unfortunately the rest left me very disappointed. The pictures on here are extremely misleading, we paid the price because we expected an interactive experience with lots of play and animals for our toddler, the reality is you arrive to an empty farm with nobody to greet you and we saw nobody the entire time we were there. We came on a weekend and it would seem nobody works there on the weekend, which for a holiday place is extremely odd as surely many people visit over weekends? There was no ‘legendary tractor rides’ no feeding of animals no pony rides, just a pretty landscape a coupe of chickens, two goats, and some jumpy unfriendly Guinea pigs. We make the best of everything and still had a nice time but if you are expecting lots of interaction and animals you will be sorely disappointed. We enjoyed the bbq in our garden and my daughter liked the trampoline. The house was lovely and clean, I think a few tweaks are needed to bring this place up to expectations for many, to make it worth the large price paid.

Just needs a bit of TLC

Reviewed By MrDavidMrsVickyH

We arrived at the campsite at around 2pm, directed straight to our pitch and was very disappointed when we got there. The size was great but due to the site being on the side of a hill there wasnt a level bit of ground on there so we ended up pitching sideways. The layout could be better, the hard standing pitches seem to be at the top of the hill and the camping at the bottom so our tent started to flood. If this was the other way around we would have been fine. Showers were pretty shocking and the mens toilet block was in need of of TLC with a few doors missing and showers just dribbling out. Quite ironic really as the dish washing facility has more pressure in the tap than the local fire engine. The clubhouse was ok, a bit expensive but that's to be expected. We didn't see much of the entertainment however, the magician telling kids that if their parents don't leave them money it's because they don't love them didn't seem appropriate for a kids show. On the plus side, the location is amazing and if you can stay up long enough to look up at the stars on a clear night then you are in for a treat. I don't think it's a bad campsite and I hope the negatives are just early season teething issues.

Do not pay attention to the negative reviews. I genuinely think they have reviewed the wrong restaurant. The food here is some of the best food my partner and myself have ever eaten from a pub. Recommend the curry and the steak pie. We were so well looked after and they couldn’t do enough for us. They were so quick to get our drinks / advise on the menu. Will deffo be back again. 5 stars. And a fantastic view of the harbour.

Lovely little place

I booked a surprise overnight stay here. Absolutely smashing place. The room was spotless with two comfy chairs in and a lush bed - we slept like babies! There was a large bathroom and wardrobe space. The proprietors have obviously put thought into the room layout. It was the perfect place to base yourself and go off.

What a lovely find this was. A welcome tray of tea & cake when we arrived. Colin & Liz are great hosts & they run the place so smoothly. Room was extremely clean, with a view of the harbour. I'll be honest, the bathroom was quite tiny but the shower was great. Breakfast is outstanding. Fruit, cereals & yoghurt to help yourself to plus your pre ordered choice all freshly cooked. Very generous portions & good quality. Make sure you're hungry when you get up. Little honesty bar is a nice touch & it was very pleasant to sit out on the balcony of an evening overlooking the harbour. Parking permit is provided for the nearby car park.

Fabulous - Didn't want to go home!

We stayed for 7 nights last week and can't thank Annie and Ralph enough for their hospitality. Comfy bed, spotlessly clean and modern, fab breakfast with loads of special options if you want them. Fridge in the room a bonus and the little touches that you can only get in a B&B - bottles of water, a tray of sweets and great local advice about the weather and where to go. Quick 5 minute walk down into Looe and a great base for us to explore around this side of Cornwall. We wouldn't go anywhere else in Looe now we've been, now planning the next trip!

Perfect last min family holiday

Reviewed By Kirsty B

Booked a last min deal. Arrived on the friday at 3pm easy check in, can arrive early on site and use all the facilites and if the caravan is ready you can go in before 4pm. First time we have stayed with john fowler and we were very pleased. Had a silver caravan which was excellent and extreamly clean, its a small park so not too far from the pool and entertainment venue. We had an amazing time. The pool was the highlight of our holiday and we spent the majority of our time here as we had the best weather. The lifeguards were very friendly and welcoming, joking around with the children. Able to book extra pool slots with them as you can only book 1 session via the app. The slide was a hit with my eldest daughter. The water temperature was the warmest weve been to. The pool was never busy either. The entertainment was ok, not as good as other places weve stayed, but the kids were happy with bingo and having a dance and a few games, the arcade is not great but saved me a lot of money! We were only a few mins drive from looe, where there is a lovely beach and quay lots of little shops and places to eat. Avoid the arcade here as it is a huge scam! Lovely park for the kids. When we go back we would like to do the glass bottom boat trip. We look forward to returning to trelawne manor in the summer holidays and hope in the future we see an improvement with the entertainment and the arcade... Perhaps Kids bingo should be changed to bingo beats with disney hits instead of the traditional bingo for kids which seemed boring.
