Longyearbyen is a great jumping-off point for experiencing the humbling power of the Arctic islands. Glaciers, mountains and primitive wildlife are the main attractions here. Be warned, though: Those polar bears look cuddly enough, but they are extremely dangerous and don't take kindly to gawking tourists.

Stay at the world's northernmost full service hotel in the heart of Longyearbyen. From your table at Restaurant Nansen you can enjoy the panoramic view towards the majestic mountain Hiorthfjellet accompanied by an excellent Arctic menu and a good selection of wines.
I liked the hotel and the service they provided. The room was ok-clean and with a nice view. The beds were really comfortable and the curtains took away all the light from the midnight sun. We found everything we wanted, and some more, at the breakfast. I’d like to come back!

Welcome to Svalbard Hotell Polfareren, a boutique-hotel centrally located in Longyearbyen. In line with Svalbard’s distinctiveness and snug charm, the hotel boasts a rustic and informal atmosphere. We offer high-standard service and culinary experiences in the heart of town. It was the young Norwegian explorer Eivind Astrup (1871-1895) who provided inspiration for the hotel, which was completed on the 1 st of February 2016. Key words such as rustic, timeless and robust were guiding values for the design of the hotel, in order to reflect Astrup, who is the youngest recipient of the Order of St. Olav. Our lounge has a polar library, refreshments in the bar and a relaxing atmosphere for you to find peace and spend some time to socialize, or just reflect upon your day. The reception is staffed around the clock to ensure our guests a memorable stay, and our staff will gladly assist you in organising your experiences of Svalbard. Polfareren is also a certified eco-lighthouse, and its two buildings consist of 49 rooms.
Nice hotel cswntral in Longyearbye with modern and spacious rooms. Nice area with fire place in the lobby/bar area. Very nice service from the reception and bar staff. Good, rather standard, buffet breakfast.

Haugen Pensjonat Svalbard is located up on Haugen hill, right next to Funken Lodge and Svalbardhallen (sports center with a swimming pool and a sauna), and it takes 10-15 min to walk from here to the town center. We are a small guest house with 9 rooms and 2 two-bedroom apartments. Each room is 18 sqm large and has either a glacier and mountain view over the Longyearbreen and Larsbreen or a view over Longyearbyen and the Adventfjorden in the back. The bathrooms are shared between every two rooms (or between three for rooms 3, 4, and 5). No breakfast is served here at Haugen Pensjonat. We have a large kitchen located on the second floor. The room number corresponds with the personal fridge and cupboard. The kitchen is equipped with everything necessary for cooking and is accessible 24/7. Moreover, we offer the accommodation in 2-bedroom apartments with own fully equipped kitchen, bathroom (with washing and drying machines) and a quite big living room. All beds are separate - there is a bunk-bed and a sofa-bed in each sleeping room. WIFI is free.
The owner and her daughter were very friendly. They helped us find an alternative activity when our trip to Pyramiden was cancelled with a discount. The room had a very nice view to the Longyerbien glacier.

The apartment was very spacious and well-equipped. Everything we needed in the kitchen and a washing machine in the bathroom, including a clothesline. Space was comfortable and window coverings were nearly black-out. Only complaint was the loud music until 2am coming from the nightclub downstairs. Earplugs are a must. Grocery and wine store just next door. Check-in and out were easy. Main reception has a nice living room and optional breakfast.

I choose this place as I wanted a unique experience while staying in Longyearbyen and it has not disappointed me. The room was small but clean with a nice painting on the wall and everything one might need - bed / desk / chair / cupboard and mirror. The bathroom and shower were outside but 2 were close by - so you could just pick the other one if one was busy. The breakfast was tasty and as one of my dates fall on a public holiday - we even got a cake.

Basecamp Hotel is situated right at the heart of Longyearbyen, among restaurants, pubs, shops and bank. It is absolutely Longyearbyen's most amazing hotel; decorated in traditional trapper's style with driftwood, sealskins, pictures and objects that illustrate the past and current trappers' life in the Arctic. Despite its rusticity, Basecamp Hotel offers high quality accommodation with unique style! Basecamp Hotel is part of Basecamp Explorer Spitsbergen, which operates day trips and expeditions to Isfjord Radio, Trapper’s Station and Nordenskiöld Lodge.
The hotel is located in the centre of town close to the shops and restaurants. You can get a shuttle bus from the airport which drops you right outside. Its design is along the lines of an old hunting lodge with lots of wood, seal skin and related memorabilia. It is very warm and cosy. Most guests are on short stays, maybe waiting to join a ship to sail around the archipelago or to go on ski trips. It is very informal. The receptionists are very helpful and kind. I was on my own there for five days and they looked after me very well, sorting out some problems with tours. I had a very nice room, compact with a double bed and my own shower room. It was very simple. Many rooms have bunk beds. There is no disabled access that I could discern and stairs have to be climbed to get to rooms. The breakfast is the best I have had in a Norwegian hotel with lots of top quality options, hot food, smoothies etc. You are permitted to make a packed lunch. The staff are very helpful. Coffee, tea and biscuits are available most of the time in reception where they also sell alcohol and soft drinks. You have to go out elsewhere for lunch and dinner but there is a lovely cafe nearby and several bars and restaurants a short walk away. There is also a very good supermarket which sells rolls and cakes. Various tour buses collect guests outside reception. So all very easy.
