It is the capital of the province of Imperia, and historically it was capital of the Intemelia district of Liguria. Mussolini created the city of Imperia on 21 October 1923 by combining Porto Maurizio and Oneglia and the surrounding village communes of Piani, Caramagna Ligure, Castelvecchio di Santa Maria Maggiore, Borgo Sant'Agata, Costa d'Oneglia, Poggi, Torrazza, Moltedo and Montegrazie.

We were 4 adults, the venue is really nice, and the staff too. We ate veal, swordfish, calamares and slices of meat. Everything really good, well prepared, but too little of the side dishes together with the meat and fish. The desserts (tiramisu, chocolate fondant and pannacotta) were just delicious and also served with a big bucket of merengue «crema». Recommended.

Last dinner on my trip on Liguria (ponente) which is left from Genova , direction France , or Monaco , if you prefer.After those perfect three days in Porto Maurizio, near Imperia, I went to the "capital" : Imperia, where I would find this 1* Michelin restaurant, in the middle of the town. Actually quite difficult to find. The main reason behind it may be because its been there for 100 years.....Anyway, back to what's important: food. A 4-course dinner for EUR 40, plus wine. Quite a defeat to all those super-expensive Michelin restaurants around the world , sometimes not serving genuine food like this . 1st course , fresh sauted shell fish on potato foam , covered with deep fried leek streeks. Full sauted squid on trumped zucchini puree with trumped zucchini julienne. Then the most ackward, but sensational spaghettis of my life....sardines, pieces of lemon, soup of fish, covered with pan-grattato (bread-crumbs) absolutely amazing.....Main dish was a bit convential, being a sea bream , well prepared with slices of fried radish and zucchini.....I definitely have to challenge them form more, because I dont believe they got to their top of their capacity......
