Situated on the historic Mid Links in the town of Montrose, the Edwardian building of The Links Hotel is a handsome setting for the smart restaurant and 'Koffiehuis' within. The main dining room is an elegant and formal space, with a menu that blends Scottish and continental cooking, plus a Sunday carvery and grill. More leisurely meals are served in the easygoing coffee shop, offering a selection of pastries and hot drinks to diners relaxing in the sofas or at the bistro-style tables. Private dining on the first floor.
Since we were staying in the hotel for a few days and the reviews looked reasonable, we thought we'd try the restaurant but I have to say we were unimpressed.
The staff were really friendly and welcoming and the service was excellent but the food was a bit of a let down. Add to that the somewhat dated décor, including 70's polystyrene ceiling tiles, and it made for a disappointing visit.
We both had soup to start followed by steaks, one a fillet with Diane sauce and the other a sirloin with pepper sauce, followed by a couple of desserts. Add a couple of drinks to that and the bill came to a smidgeon off of £90 so it's not for the budget concious.
When we ordered we asked if the mains came with vegetables and were told they did so we didn't order any extras. The "veg" turned out to be mushrooms and grilled tomato, neither of which are vegetables. I suppose, at a pinch, you could call chips vegetables but I wouldn't. We also asked for medium steaks and got them a bit on the rare side of that (blood leaking onto plate). We were okay with that but some might not be.
The soup and the dessert were good but not enough to make up for the poor main and high prices. I doubt we'd ever go back there again.

Last weekend, to celebrate a double birthday, we decided to visit this restaurant for a meal. Have not visited this hotel for many years, but the quality of the meals are still the same as I remembered. Ample Seating are in the bar, and also a restaurant are as well. Food was delicious and staff very friendly. Will definitely visit again in the future.

We used an itison voucher which gave us a 2 course lunch for 2 for £13. There is a special itison menu, which has a really good selection on offer.
We both chose to have main courses and desserts. I opted for the Battered Fish with Chips and a choice of peas, sweetcorn or salad. I chose sweetcorn, and the fish and chips also came with a good sized portion of Tartare Sauce. My husband chose the Burger and it was no problem at all to add cheese, (at a charge of £1.50). Both our main courses were delicious.
For dessert I chose the Banoffie Tart and my husband had one of his favourites - Crumble, a Raspberry and Apple one. He had a generous amount of cream in a jug to go along with it.
Castleton was very busy for a Monday, perhaps due to it being mid-term holidays. Regardless of this we had excellent friendly service, and not long at all to wait for our food.
We had booked a table for 1pm, but there was a constant queue of people waiting for a table until well after 2 o'clock. It is a very popular place.
I had a white wine at £3.95 and we had two pots of tea at £2.00 each.
Very enjoyable lunch - will be visiting again very soon!

A fish and chip shop with amazing panoramic views over Gourdon harbour and out to the North sea. No matter the weather this is a great spot to savour the sea's harvest, cooked with care and attention and served in warm, welcoming and friendly surroundings. Please note that only the Fish Bar (takeaway) is open on Tuesdays. Restaurant & Fish Bar are both open Wednesday - Sunday.
We were given a nice seat by the window, but unfortunately it was a very wet day. The calamari starter was stunning, not like the usual sliced rings that is served up in most restaurants. We followed with the reason we visited, good old fashioned...MoreHi Invernessdruid, Thanks for your review. Sorry we couldn't do anything about the weather, but we're glad you enjoyed your meal. Look forward to welcoming you on a sunnier day.

The restaurant will be closed Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for Winter Hours. This will last from the 1st of November until the 1st of April. It will also be closed from the 19th of December until the 6th of January for Christmas and New Year.
Our Visit to the Clatterin Brig Tapas Night last night was a very enjoyable experience. My husband assured me that the Sangria was excellent and our food was very tasty with, in my opinion, just the right amount of heat! We shared several different dishes and transported back to Spain with the added touch of Spanish music playing in the background. Pity the temperature outside wasn't similar to that of Spain( it was -3C) but it was nice and cosy inside the restaurant. Well done to all of the staff for a great evening.

Situated in the heart of the beautiful village of Fettercairn, close to the stunning Glen Esk and Drumtochty glen, a friendly Scottish cafe / tea-room, serving home baked cakes, cooked breakfasts, homemade soups, sandwiches, paninis and hot fresh cooked meals. Tasty homemade desserts and award winning ice cream. Friday 4pm to 7pm we open as a pop up chippy (take away or sit in) Great tasting coffee (espresso, latte, cappuccino, Americana, flat white and mocha), luxury hot chocolate. We also serve alcohol and a good range of soft drinks including Fentimans. Ask us about our gluten free meals, crisps and cakes and we offer soya milk as an option for our hot drinks. We are on some of the main cycle and motorcycle routes over to Royal Deeside and welcome bikers and cyclists.
What a great little cafe. Great selection of very good food. Clean, great service, lovely quaint decor. Very surprised at finding this trendy cafe in such a small village.

We stayed here for a family christening, we had a meal the night before which was beautiful sizes were big and lots to choose from. The rooms were stunning had everything in them, a sofa, chair, all the amenities you needed. The bed was a good size and very comfy. The next day we went to the christening then back for a lunch again which was lovely. The Gardens off one of the function suites was lovely and plenty of room for the children to run about. Would highly recommend and I would stay here again definitely.

Can't review the takeaway food as cooked in beef dripping. A treat for some but a big disappointment if you are vegetarian or vegan. So terrible for those people.

We welcome you to Balmakewan, a small family run Farm and Farm Shop in South Aberdeenshire. We aim to offer a consistently good breakfast and lunch. Come along to try our Tea Room delights, our home made breakfast and lunch menu, our well stocked farm shop and delicatessen, as well as enjoy our gentle farm walk.
Popped in with a friend for a coffee and a scone this morning and loved chatting at the large table listening to the beautiful large clock ticking away above us. Balmakewan have some lovely gifts so I started my Christmas shopping today too!! Lovely atmosphere (Not sure why we haven't sat the large table before as it's so homely) with excellent service and delicious cakes (I took a slice of raspberry Bakewell tart home too!!)
