Trolling the Southlands for a late lunch, my phone led a jaunt East across the border, into Indiana. Never off-put by a humble storefront (best recent BBQ reviewed at a GAS STATION in MO!), I sidled up to the counter....
A very friendly young lady ran me down the daily specials, while a Q-master dude detailed the chili's contents. So, a pound of tips, sides of chili and curly fries (arrived crisp as ordered); we were off to the races.
Unless pulled hot from the smoker and chopped to order, tips are tricky - falling below oven temp they tend to harden and dry out quickly, if not sauced. These were neither, which might have dismayed some. They were, however, really well smoked and tasted richly of rub. Three puddles of their "not killer hot" sauces gave just enough juice as I dissected the pieces. There was minimal fat, and virtually no cartilage. The trim was excellent!
The chili was also noteworthy for multi-textured presentation of meats - one can easily tell what was being eaten. Just spicy enough, served hot. My only criterion for curly fries is that they not flop around - these were crisp and fresh. For a joint with no stove (only smokers and fryers), they're doing OK. If I'd wanted brisket, however - my usual requirement is a grilling and slight blackening treatment of the slices. Same true for hot links - a split and grilled presentation is best, I say!
Wouldn't have minded some cooked greens on the menu, too - but after all, this is NORTHERN Indiana! Overall, pretty well done for 20-somethings..... but room for a tweak or two.

Was in Munster for work and wanted something quick for breakfast. Nothing better than a donut!
I was pleasantly surprised with delicious donuts! These were fresh, tasted outstanding and there was plenty of variety! The staff working at Munster Donuts were super friendly too!
Highly recommend!

Retail Bakery
Calumet Bakery is a Lansing landmark. They have very appealing and beautiful display cases full of delicious goodies. The staff is always friendly and the hours of service are really convenient which allow the opportunity to get your sugar fix at almost any time you want.

Since 1976 Beggars Pizza has been baking up a wide variety of Pizzas. Choose from Deep Dish, Thin Crust or Stuffed styles. We have a wide variety of toppings that we LAY ON THICK!
We heard about the Chicago specialty "deep dish" pan pizza, and tried it at Beggars. We are pleasantly surprised how deep the fillings/toppings are, and thoroughly enjoyed it. It has so much ingredients that a large pan pizza is more the enough for the whole family.

Had high hopes for my visit to this brew pub but came away confused. The beer list is extensive (obviously, as it is attached to a well established brewery) but the cliche list of funky names masks the essence of the beer offerings.
That aside, the food selections were eclectic to say the least. The Scotch egg arrived at room temperature...not a great way to have sausage and eggs. Other selections were piping hot, giving the impression that food prep is irregular or careless.
Service was spotty and the heavy metal music along with clown horror movies playing on screens throughout the dining area left something to be desired.

When one steps into Gayety Candy and Ice Cream store the wonderful aroma of chocolate is the first thing you notice. They have been a family owned business for 3+ generations and still hand make their delicious pieces of chocolate by hand. In the summertime their ice cream with Gayety's homemade ice cream is a super treat, not just for warm weather actually but year round. Have a sweet tooth? Then you have to check out Gayety's Candy/Ice Cream Store with plenty of seating to enjoy your treats.

This is the place for people who like to eat home style cooking. No trendy frufru plates of humming bird portions. Here you get full meals: hardy soups and salads, adult portion entrees and yummy deserts. We especially love the fried fish. There are senior specials and early bird prices.
Their breakfasts run the gamut from light and delicate to lumberjack satisfying belly busters. Service is friendly but food is cooked to order so it is quick but not fast.
Portions are generous and all the things we have tried taste like they were prepared by someone who loves you. The room is cozy, and comfortable not fussy - just like the food. Best of all it is affordable enough to bring the kids! We like it a lot and eat here (and at their Shererville, IN location) often.

The store on Ridge Road in Munster has the rudiest clerks. I live closer to that store but will go to the store on 45th because the clerks are nicer!! They use to have an employee named Barbara who was nice and friendly but for some reason they did not like her so they forced her out!! Probably didn't like her for it made them look worse!! I have run into former employees who agree with me about Barbara and how rude and nasty the other employees were. I do not have to put up with rudiness.

We were taken to this bbq bar by a friend from Munster. I was surprised by the beautiful chandlers and nice atmosphere. A large selection of whiskeys and a very good bbq,
I had the baby back ribs (1/2 slab) was enough for me. My wife is gluten intolerant and she shared a large potion of pulled Park with our friend. They have a good selection of wine too. The fries are good too.
I would go back when I’m in the area.

Nice little lunch spot. Be aware this is a takeout only place no outside eating either... but worth it to take home had the lunch special with a side of crab Rangoon very good as well... we will be happy to return again next time in the area.
