Rain battered and cold we stumbled upon this place and were very glad as food and service were excellent.

We order two starters. One was 6 large well roosted shrimps. The other was an Octopus salad, lovely served but see the picture try to spot the octopus and you understand (note some parts are onions).
But I seem to have drawn the short end of the stick that evening. The steak I ordered rare was well cooked this can happen but why does it take more then 15 minutes to restore the error (2 minutes on each side?) So while my son was consuming an excellent dish (pork cheeks) I was waiting. Finally got my steak which was fine. But a sorry sir for the delay would show some compassion of the waiter. He didn't ask at anytime if we were pleased with the food. Most waiters do these days..So all in all not the best meal and definitely not the best service or the cheapest meal. Room for improvement for sure. BTW it is a nice place but at that level also the glases could be shining, which they didn't but may be I'm now to detailed.

Great service and meal at this adega. Grilled meats are tender and do try the grilled octopus they do it to perfection. I know octopus is not for everyone but even my landlubber wife tried a sample of my meal and was impressed. Great selection of wines and they have their own 10 year old tawny port for after dinner.

Unusually, we booked by phone. Arrived in Lamego, which was empty and wondered why we bothered. Walked in, to find two tables set out for 20+ people and two other tables, one of which was ours. They were turning away people all the time we were there, so lucky for once.
The food is probably classic Portuguese - large chunks of meat, overcooked vegetables (by British standards) but all tasty. The puddings were nothing special either. The main attraction of the visit was the friendly service and the interaction with locals and, incidently, the modest price - three courses, wine and water for two - Euro 43.

Portugueese traditional food
I read some positive & some negative reviews but i still give it a try since the location is great and outdoor Seating is nice. The octopus with grill prawn is nice, seafood salade is terrible (only greens+a tomato+anions+carrot+some crab stick costed €13), house white wine is nice but i think its over priced @ €5/glass, beer is normal @ €2/glass, vienette ice cream was from freezer. We dont mind to pay €57 for lunch but won't be at this restaurant again.

RESTAURANT The Wine House Hotel's restaurant is worth a visit on its own and an amazing gastronomic experience. With elegant, modern and sober decoration, its main area allows you to embrace the river with the view and immediately enjoy one of the best offers in the region. The varied and tempting menu respects the traditional Portuguese cuisine's concept and uses Douro's typical products that the virtuoso chef Carlos Pires works with almost divine inspiration. And each special dish is accompanied by the best-suited Quinta da Pacheca wine, thus enriching the adventure of flavours.
The Wine House restauarant at Quinta da Pacheca is good. They have a nice selection of salads and entrees, including vegetarian, which was important to our group. They have a nice wine list. The decor of the restaurant is a little jarring, in bright green/chartreuse, which doesn't seem to go with the charming exteriors. The lighting was a bit too bright for my tastes, but the food and drink were very good, and the service was excellent.

Restaurant Novo is located in Lamego in front of Se Cathedral. It opened in the 60's, and since 1989 is under management of Amandio Dias. Our space is cozy and is one of the gastronomic references in the city, mainly because of the quality of the products and the personalized service, in contrast with the fast food way of life. Roast and grilled meals are the most appreciated by our guests. The variety of meat and the good fish are the rule of quality in this house.
I was torn on the rating because parts were really great and others, not so much. The long and short is that the service is typical kind of service. Prices were reasonable. My dish was awesome! I had the bifinhos de vitela com presunto de Lamego. It was so yummy and seasoned perfectly. Really exceeded my expectations. The other dish at the table was the lombo de porco com cogumelos. It was ok. The restaurant is located in front of a lovely church. The lamb is totally worth it!

This is a great place if your looking for a cheap restaurant in the heart of Lamego and willing to explore downtown a bit. It is located in a secondary road 10 minutes away, by foot, from the main plaza.
The menu consists of pizza, pasta and meat. A single pizza can easily feed two people of a regular appetite and only costs around 6€. We ordered two pizzas, two sodas and a water and only paid 15€. The pizza is made of a thin crust filled with a good tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese, the toppings were fresh vegetables (even the mushrooms were fresh and not canned ones). The prices are surprisingly low for such quality. I think there is also a take-away option.
The environment is just of a regular restaurant but could be more cared for in terms of decoration. It is clean, you can even look into the kitchen and see for yourself. There are two rooms with tables, probably one for gatherings and other for regular costumers. The walls are half green and half white, a bit silly in my opinion. On the walls are hung pictures of famous mafia members. The bathrooms are old but clean and working perfectly. It is a comfortable, not sketchy, little restaurant.
The staff was nice and polite. Even though we got in for a late lunch and were still eating after the door was closed they didn't rush us and were not rude.
Overall great conditions and food quality for such good price. 5/5 would repeat this experience.

Service was good. Location is great too, just on the foot of the climb up to the castello. The food was honest, simple grub but was heavily covered in oil/fat and salty. It was tasty but very different to what we're used to and found it difficult to finish the full meal.
