The good news is that this is a very inexpensive place to have a meal. It resembles a giant cafeteria and the food is overcooked on steam tables. The service was slow and it was pretty busy. Supposedly this is typical Salvadorian cuisine, but fortunately, I had many other meals that were much better than at Tipicos Margoth.

Having just arrived in San Salvador we asked our cab driver to drop us at a "typical" restaurant in the Zone Rosa and he took us to La Hola. The food was great but very expensive! I had a prawn salad (four prawns) and a margarita for $17. My buddy had ceviche which was $10 and extremely good.
A friend and I had dinner with other friends at Lima Limón about 3 weeks ago. The Paseo El Carmen in Santa Tecla has been resurrected as a tourist destination with restaurants, bars and a few shops. It's fun to stroll along the street and see the people and the sights, including the beautiful cathedral. Lima Limón, like most of the restaurants, is small and intimate with indoor and outdoor dining space. We both had the steak with balsamic reduction sauce and agreed it was the best steak either of us has had in El Salvador (between us we have been there about 36 times). It was served with delicious tomatoes and potato salad. The Bananas Foster that Juan, the owner and chef, made us as a special dessert was well worth the calories! The margaritas were great, and there's a good assortments of beers. Other friends with us had dinners they said were very good as well. Lima Limón is definitely worth a visit!

Went here with a group of folks and the food was fantastic. We met the new phew of the manager who sent us some appetizers to try, each was amazing. The service was fast and they worked hard especially in light of our limited Spanish.

Chicharrones
This place is wonderful!!! The prices are above the average but it is definitely a must if you travel around Santa Tecla and you like pork, bacon, and all pork related food. Yummy!!!! The parking is another problem.. they only have like 3-4 spots.. but besides that, everything is great. They do accept credit cards. 4 starts because of the parking and a little over the average price.

I had been at Las Brumas several years ago and was happy to return. The restaurant is in beautiful gardens on the side of the San Salvador Volcano, a short drive from the city of San Salvador. Service is wonderful. I had filet mignon with grilled vegetables. It was excellent. We were a large group, and everyone enjoyed his/her meal. It's definitely a restaurant to visit if you have an adequate budget and time to enjoy the view.

It was an excellent dinner. Good service. Open kitchen concept. Locals mainly, wry nice atmosphere. Birthday celebrations at quite a few tables. Entraña was fantastic! I was very close to order another one, but decided to leave space for desserts. And rightly so! Banana cake was superb, so was flan. Starters were a bit less impressive, compared to main courses, I would say leave out salmon carpaccio- it has to be eaten in northern hemisphere :), focus on local stuff instead.
