Fantastic location
Reviewed By normannorma1We had a lovely stay at Perle de Re. The mezzanine apartment was clean, spacious and perfectly equipped. The staff were great and manage the property well. There are good bars and restaurants close by and also a short walk away in the centre of the village. It is a central location to enjoy visiting the entire island using the fabulous cycle routes. Oh, and there is a great beach just 50m away!

A Human size Hotel We are a 19 rooms hotel each individually decorated in a style rhétais. They are spread Place Carnot side (pedestrian square in front of our hotel) or side patio (a courtyard within our hotel). This configuration makes Le Vieux Gréement a perfect haven for your holiday. The establishment Le Vieux Gréement, formerly Les Dés Fleuris, or before a simple Guesthouse, is a historical place of accommodation Couardais, as if it had always existed.

Reviewed By mike DWe visited this well run hotel twice at different times of this year. The rooms we had were clean and good with different views. Check in was quick and the staff of the hotel were professional, helpful and friendly. Good breakfast under the trees in the small square outside- lovely experience in the warmer months but the breakfast was no less good inside when we returned in October. Free overnight car parking nearby.

Each room has its own color, with each color its atmosphere. Each of the rooms is equipped with excellent bedding 160x200cm , 32 "flat screen TV and its own spacious shower and toilet . The 5 rooms dedicated to our guests are the image of the house, a mix of charm and color to create a warm atmosphere in all seasons. We invite you to discover the Ile de Ré, ideal environment where everyone can practice his favorite hobbies: beach, walks or bike rides, water sports, fishing ... When you return, relax in the spa or in the pool.

Reviewed By SusiQ72Easy walking distance from Couarde Sur La Mer, perfect out of the way location but only a few minutes from the beach and a central spot to access places by bike (amazing bike paths). Sandrine is a lovely host, unobtrusive but contactable if needed and puts a lot of care into breakfast (fresh fruit, freshly squeezed juice and homemade yoghurt and lovely coffee then homemade pastries, brioche or pancakes every morning). The pool is lovely and we had it to ourselves most of the time as only 5 rooms. Very little English spoken but we had fun trying our limited French and managed to communicate well enough combined with Sandrine's broken English so not a problem, we were in France though so shame on us!!

Good and bad
Reviewed By KwahMy partner and I stayed at Le Mail Plage for a week at the height of the French holiday season. It's a basic self-catering hotel in a great location – 100m from the beach and a similar distance from shopping for essentials and the daily morning market (for excellent local produce and tat). There are cafés and restaurants within touching distance, and more of the same in the quaint, pedestrianised village centre, a five-minute walk away. Apartment 36 (sleeps six with mezzanine, low-ceiling double bedroom, which my wife frequently banged her head on, a single on the landing, a single in the hallway and a pull-out sofa) and offers a view of the, well, car park. That said, it was quiet; most people dump their car for the duration of their stay and take to bicycles. The tiny WC is separate and doesn't have a sink; anyone taller than 6ft would be best advised to sit sideways on the pew with the door open (if your family/partner will accept such a display of openness). The pool looked fine and never seemed overly busy but we didn't try it, preferring to walk to the beach or cycle to other beaches further afield. The self-catering side is well taken care of, including a microwave, four-place hob, dishwasher, toaster, coffee machine (bring a kettle if you like your tea hot) and all the kitchen utensils you could want. But you need to bring sheets/pillow cases, towels, tea towels, iron, rubbish bags, washing-up liquid and anything else you use in normal day-to-day living; the hotel doesn't give so much as a bean of a welcome pack. The front desk were very helpful and the free-in-reception wi-fi (bring your own computer) worked but wasn't great. There's a wi-fi hotspot at the tourist office in the village centre that I didn't try. Our conclusion was that we would have been better off renting a house. We could have had a similarly positioned three-bedroom property for less than the £1000+ we paid, and we'd have had our own outside space. As for Île de Ré itself, we'll be going back in the not too distant future.
