We found this really deep into the town of Kameoka after a walk around the castle ruins area. It was a really small space probably 10 tables or so. We saw many locals and no tourists at all but found the food really honest and homely. We weren't really sure what we were ordering and just pointed to photos but we saw other nice dishes coming out of the kitchen and wished we could have tried them all. The vegetable ramen was very natural, a tad salty for our liking but had a great feeling about it. The Kameoka Beef Udon/Soba was a real delight, good soup broth and very tender, well marbled slices of beef. The Omu Rice was delightful. Overall a great experience eating local.

Good mediterraan food. Small portions.Share a couple of plates. Good wine selectionMenu was all Japanse, but the friendly owner could speakers some english. Cosy atmosphere. Good and friendly service.
This is located just a short distance from JR Umahori station and enroute to th Scenic Railway's Kameoka Torokko station. It is a rather small place, with 7 tables, 3 of which are with Japanese-style seating. There is only one waitress but she and the kitchen are clearly very efficient as the dishes arrive fast. Some dishes at least, appear to be limited in number each day; probably a good way to keep ingredients fresh? The waitress speaks good English and also explains how to eat our Sukiyaki, etc. The beef is definitely great and reasonably priced. Worth a visit for lunch before/after Arashiyama.
