The buckwheat noodles tasted better than the tea noodles. Both were very good and refreshing. The portions are just right and will not leave you feeling bloated or too full for your continuing journey in Uji. The staff do not seem to speak English, but there's picture menu. After the noodles come out, they'll also provide an instruction type of flyer that suggests how you should eat to enjoy the soba in both English and Chinese. Average price 1000 yen.Only minus one 'star' since it's a very simple restaurant. I wished there were some extra toppings to order from but you can see that their bar kitchen really just allows for making and cooking the soba.
I randomly chose this restaurant on my way back from the Byodo-In temple because it looked far less touristic and definitely cheaper than the other on the main street... I was not disappointed! when you enter, there is a menu (with some basic translation in English). Then you have to order at the machine on your right (the staff helped me as it was the first time I saw such a machine!). Then you can get a seat and enjoy! The place is very small and can only host like 10-15 people together. You walk on the tatami and then sit at the counter. They are specialized in pork dishes (don't go there for halal!) such as ramen and Gyoza. I was really happy with my lunch there as the food was excellent and I warmly recommend it to anyone being in Uji for lunch! Also, it was not to expensive: 1000 yen for the "classic" set. other restaurants of the touristic zone ask you about 1500 yen for less food!plus: you can choose your rice portion size (S-M-L) and the price is the same!

Having come from a culture of believing whales should stay in the ocean it can be confirmed the Japs are definitely into something. The whale nigiri was the best thing weâd ever eaten and couldnât get enough of it. Watching the sushi masters prepare the food in front of you also adds to the experience. Canât recommend this place more highly

We stopped by this cafe on our way to temple. Itâs so delicious. The eels set is the best for my husband. And my pork set is so yummy. The macha ice cream is the best in this trip so far. Will come back for sure.
