Laakonki serves a very nice, sober brunch buffet on Saturdays and Sundays. The salads were a fresh and tasty and the warm dishes follow themes, the American style, as we had ours. All servings tasted good, the sausages were especially mouth-watering. A rich choice of small desserts and cakes top the nice meal with a view over the harbor bay, everything for 20 â¬.
Lunch buffet, including great salad buffet, soup, a few warm dishes, dessert, coffee & tea. The food is excellent - and it's cheap! Located inside office building. Every day 11am to 1:30pm
Amazing salad, try this for lunch. You can choose the fillings like pulled pork, tuna, blue cheese, egg, macarones, sweet and sour chicken.. Service is a bit sour, but don't mind that. Fine decorations by designer Marko Paananen, owners famous brother.

Varissaari Island is a 15-minute frequent waterbus ride from the centre of Kotka, and worth visiting at least once if you are in Kotka in summertime. Small beach, ruins of the fortress, nice place for picknicking. If you have visited the faily modest Varissaari cafe 2-30 years ago, don't expect to find anything similar anymore. Now this is an ambitious, upscalish restaurant, serving food made with thought. The bar is similarly ambitious (serving the excellent Finnish gin, craft beers and real champagne), and miraculously the premises look very different now. The stunning sea view is left.I have visited the place twice, once for dinner (Aug 2015) and a second time for just drink in the bar (May 2016), and left the place both times with a good feeling.

If you go to Kotka, definitely pay a visit. I was taken there for business lunch which was a traditional Finnish christmas buffet. It was nice. The atmosphere was good. I enjoyed it.

The view by the sea was beautiful and our meal (fish ala carte list) was very tasty.Service was friendly and relatively fast, and the staff is very honest: I accidentally dropped some money (notes) on floor. The waitress found the notes when she was cleaning the table, so she ran after me and returned the notes.

Experimental cousine in southern Finland was unexpected I must say, but I was also pleasantly surprised. Pork, lamb and even crickets were delicious, everyone was satisfied in our party of ten. Good selection of local (and non) gins, 2hich is always a nice touch. As often, I'm not the biggest fan of the portion's size in this part of the world.Recommended.
