A very charming Food and Beverage Supervisor who came around at the end of the meal did not unfortunately make up for a tasteless meal with bad service with even worse music playing. I kid you not â can anyone remember when the theme tune for the Pink Panther was last popular?Tonight, the last night of our stay at our annual timeshare at La Montagne we ventured to trying The Crayfish Inn. Having stayed at the resort for the last 4 years we realised that we had never eaten at its premier restaurant. Truthfully in Ballito you are spoilt for choice. There are some great restaurants around; Mozambik, Al Pescatore, Biera Alta, Milk, Beach Hut, to name but a few.Our experience started when the harassed sole waiter told us to choose from one of two tables. Now too be honest the restaurant was not exactly full. However there was one large table that had some screaming spawn, which made our decision much easier. We elected to sit next to a table where the host continually and in loud voice declared his life, his previous experiences with wine, and just about everything else, to be Genuinely Lekker.Unfortunately you cannot order less than 400 grams of crayfish which sounded just a little bit too much for me ⦠size and price wise when you are looking at R94 per 100 grams, so I elected to try the La Montagne prawns as a starter followed by Calamari as a main. Now having had a similar starter at Mozambik on Monday my mouth was salivating as I sat there waiting. After a long interval I was presented with the usual snail tray filled with a greyish (okay the lighting might have been bad) sauce that paled in comparison with Mozambik. Supposedly served with home-made bread. Hell No that was one small warmed up dinner roll. I know a reheated roll when I see one! Too be fair the prawns were alright. The sauce did them no favours however. My son then received his plate of food. Fillet served with chips and sauce of his choice. Been the conservative eater that he is, he chose Cheese sauce. Well I could see by the look on his face that his fillet was not to his liking. By the second bite he started to smile. Turns out they make a hellavu cheese sauce which when you pour over everything makes everything taste Ok.My main meal arrived â calamari (note I was not asked if I wanted it grilled or fried) and rice. Now when I was presented with a choice of chips or rice I chose rice. I automatically assumed it would be savoury rice. Boy was I wrong. It was rice â plain white boring old rice. Calamari was grilled in a lemon butter sauce. What can I say about the calamari â it was edible, tasteless⦠until I stole some of that magical cheese sauce from my son. It turned out to be true â the cheese sauce really did make everything taste better. One glass of wine for me, one cool drink for son and the bill with tip came to R380. Not too expensive at the end of the day. Would I go back? Only for a portion of that cheese sauce. One waiter ran around who had clearly not been trained properly. It was only later on in the evening that re-enforcements arrived. My son described the music and the general atmosphere as being indicative of the kind of place that you would go to hang over your drink before you took the plunge from the windows to the ground below. Very much last chance Saloon.LikeShow more reactionsComment

We had dinner at John Dory's Ballito Junction before going to the movies. Our waitress, Phindile, had a rude attitude. We ordered drinks and she couldn't tell me what the Singapore sling cocktail consists of had a irritated attitude. The restaurant was busy and when she brought our drinks we decided to order our food. She just place the drinks on our table and immediately turned away. My husband called her back and she had a irritated look in her face. We asked politely if we could place our order and when the the food arrived it was really good. I noticed that our waiter sat down at the table behind us and stared clearing the table. The next moment she stick her hand in her bra and took out money, exchanged it with the money on the table and then she stuck her hand in her bra again. I was just too late to capture her on camera but when she saw me watching her she quickly cleared the table. We finished our food and had to call her to give bring our bill after 15 minutes. Management should really train her to act more professional. Dear 756Rias,We are sorry to see your John Dory's experience wasn't a good one. We would appreciate the opportunity to get in touch with you directly to discuss your review. Please email your contact details along with a copy of your rating to [email protected] hope to hear from you, soon.Sincerely, John Dory's

I am a long time client of this establishment and have previously written a very positive review but I believe that things have changed. After a friend reported that he had had a poor takeaway from the new Salt Rock branch of Captain Fine's, we decided to try the Ballito branch for take aways. The staff are wonderfully friendly and the service was prompt. But when we got home and opened the food we were shocked at how it seems to have become very small portions and certainly not worth the cost. The calamari was tasty but certainly not a meal portion and the hake seems to have shrunk over the years. Grant needs to review these portions or adjust his prices accordingly.

The only thing that saves this place from doom is its location. The slow service is so off putting. The menu is not bad. Has become a bit too expensive for what is on offer.

At Ocean Basket Ballito you'll find friendly people, a home-from-home feeling and great value for your hard-earned bucks.
Although we have visited this restaurant many times we discovered a roof top dining area on our last but one visit. Excellent views, efficient service and typically good Ocean Basket food. We went back about 2 days later and sat on the open terrace again.Hi Sharkssupporter1,Thank you for reviewing Ocean Basket Ballito. We're glad to see you had a great time.We hope to "sea" you again soon. Many Thanks,Team Ocean Basket

We enjoyed the view and sat on the new outside deck, and although rennovations were still ongoing, we enjoyed our lunch time steak and a few drinks. Service was good

Situated in the lush town of Ballito, a jewel on the KwaZulu Natal North Coast. Beira Alta has become synonymous with discerning diners looking for generous portions and Portuguese fare with a spicy African influence. Owner run and managed we pride our se
We have always been meaning to go to Beira Alta, but never went....finding good Portuguese food mostly is pretty disappointing. We had a warm welcome, with attentive staff, in a restaurant with a nice family vibe. The Menu was tempting and it seems they run regular specials. We wanted authentic Portuguese chicken, and were not disappointed. The sides were fresh and homemade with marinades that had you wiping the plates with the freshly baked bread. We definately will go and try some more items, and actually look forward to experiencing some more Beira Alta hospitality.

We went to Fiamma grill for an early dinner on Sunday with my family and we had an almost perfect evening the waiter was the best until something happened which left us bitterly disappointed there was a gentleman who was wearing a black jacket shouting at the staff about something with little regard that we were there. The staff looked very scared of him. He is arrogant, bossy and lack of leaderships qualities for a family Friendly rastoraunt like Fiamma grill. On consultation we were told that he is one of the managers. We quickly paid our bill and left.Dear CarolThank you for your patronage and time taken in reviewing our store. I have discussed in detail your review with my team and management about your recent situation, which I am humbly apologetic about. We have to be careful when responding to reviews of this nature due to the seriousness of the situation. We are a family business and lead with a motivational managment style, we are a team and work together on achieving success. You and I both know that at times, raising ones voice and seeking justifiable answers is necessary, thus I am sorry that you had to be in the presence of that experience. Aryn, the manager on duty understands his actions and is working very hard on maintaining control and humility in his approach. This being said, we would appeal to you to reconsider about the nature and star rating of our store as it truly negatively impacts our business in a large way. Thus even the servers and kitchen staff feel the ramifications of a 1 star review, as we are a small town with a lot of competition. I hope you can find it in your heart to understand and accept our apologies, as we all need a chance in life.Fabien Durocher-Yvon Owner - Fiamma Grill

Had a great evening at the restaurant, Freddy & his staff were on point and made sure we had an enjoyable evening. We were the last patrons to leave on the eveing. Had the jalapeno poppers as starters and the 1kg giant prawns as a main. Wow! Loved the prawns, we ordered them medium so had that slight kick but could also taste the lemon butter coming through the devine sauce.Drinks- 4starsFood - 5 stars Service- 4 starsKeep up the great work, will definitely visit the establishment when we visit Ballito again.Hi Zubz1515,What a lovely review! Thank you so much for taking the time to provide us with this feedback, something I will be sure to pass onto the managers and kitchen staff as they will be so thrilled to hear! We hope to welcome you back to Ballito and our little escape again soon!
